Listening to 8/24/85 - great run of songs from #23 to #13 - ended by Kool and the Gang's "Cherish". Not a terrible song, but not my favorite. Some good stuff from Casey on the intros to "Pop Life", "Money for Nothing", "You Spin Me Round", and "Don't Lose My Number", in which Casey told the story of Phil Collins playing in concert on both sides of the Atlantic in the same day (presumably for the first time, since this would have been six weeks after the Live Aid concert).

So intetesting to hear extras like "What a Fool Believes" as an extra on the Hot AC show from 2000. Even by 2002, that song wouldn't be caught dead on the format.

Back at it after being away for a few days. It's the earliest show in AT40 history that I have not heard yet...9/23/72. Just heard a 6+ minute version of "Freddie's Dead" that I had not heard before on AT40 and maybe a couple times otherwise. Local R&B oldies station never plays that version.

What a difference a year makes. A March 1981 show has the potential to be rough to get through, but March 1982 is a good mix of great tunes, many 80s staples you still hear today

I'm back after a few days on the road for job-related purposes.
Right now I'm finishing up Casey's Top 40 from 9/23/89. Next I think I'll do AT40 from 9/21/91, the day I turned 21.

AT40 from 9/28/91 and Shadoe just explained the methodology change effective in May for the album chart. Detailed the Soundscan system that was initiated then. Mentioned how albums debuting at #1 was one of the characteristics of this methodology change. He wondered whether Guns 'n Roses two 'Use Your Illusions' albums would debut at 1 and 2 in the next week's chart. He was correct..they debuted in the #1 and 2 positions IIRC. Now I am doubtful that he ever mentioned the Soundscan change on the Hot 100. So a dubious inconsistency there.

Just finished 9/3/83, with that cool story about the ghost-inhabited church the Eurythmics had just bought in London ahead of "Sweet Dreams". That place was eventually turned into a recording studio, after another artist who bought it from Dave Stewart considered turning it into an apartment building (or "block of flats" as Brits would call it)... Bob Dylan reportedly made tracks there among many others...
