In memory of Glenn Frey, AT40 from February 28, 1977, with "New Kid In Town" at #1. It also is kicked off with another recently deceased artist as Natalie Cole had #40 that week with "I've Got Love On My Mind".

Heard the next to last Shadoe show from 1/21/95 and you could sense that he knew it was coming to a close. About half the songs were actually rebounding on the chart. And one of them was the #1 song, "Another Night". Shadoe said that it was the third song in the rock era to reach the top 3 times in the same chart run. But if you buy that new Joel Whitburn book on the Top 10 charts, you will only find one previous song that did that ("Le Freak"). The other according to Shadoe is "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" from 1955. Whitburn's book will only show it hitting #1 twice on the Best Sellers chart which he uses for all the years prior to the Hot 100. AT40 used a hybrid arrangement for LIAMST, going from the Best Sellers chart to the Top 100 chart when the latter debuted. I don't buy that interpretation and think Whitburn got it right using the Best Sellers chart all the way through to August 1958. Anyway, a song reaching #1 a third time has really only happened twice therefore and both happened in the third week of January. BTW, it happened a third time on the last AT40 the next week with "On Bended Knee". So they went out in record style these last 2 weeks. (And neither will be in Whitburn's book of course since he uses the Hot 100).

This is more so of what I'm watching rather than what I am listening to right now. Strange coincidences of what I have been watching sort of relate to the AT40 offerings this weekend. A couple of days ago, the movie "An American Tail" was on one of the Encore channels, and the song "Somewhere Out There" debuted on the 1-24-87 show. This morning I listened to the 1-21-78 show where Casey drew a comparison to an ignorant perspective of Randy Newman's "Short People" and Archie Bunker. "All In The Family" was on one of the digital local channels in Omaha this afternoon. Last but not least, another local digital channel aired the movie "Labyrinth" starring the late great David Bowie. A strange movie, but I did enjoy it. As you can tell, there is not much to do in the dead of January as I have drawn all these instances!

Listening to Shadoe from 12/1/90...getting a chuckle out of one of the network commercials. It's an ad for Sega Genesis in which the dude with a deep voice says "and you can't do that on Nintendo". Well...not much you can do on Sega these days, eh? Meanwhile, Nintendo still lives on 25 years later...
Listened to the 1984 Top 100 earlier. Unfortunate that Premiere just recycled their 2007 broadcast of this show--back then they cut teasers and split logos from the original show, so many of those items were missing from this airing. It would have been nice if they'd added them back in this time around...glad they discontinued that practice after the first couple years.

Yeah, that was part of their "Genesis does what Nintendon't" campaign at the time.

February 2, 1980. 36 years ago today. My favorite show of that year. I know a lot of people don't like the 1980 shows, but this one covers a wide variety of genres. It's a transitional show. Disco is fading, and softer sounds are moving in. Lots of good stuff. I enjoy it a lot.

In memory of Maurice White, AT40 from May 24, 1975, the only week that "Shining Star" was at #1.

Already caught the 70s show which has at least 2 and maybe 3 songs banned by the BBC in it. Now the 2/2/85 show where Casey talks about another song banned by the BBC, "Relax'. He said they actually played it 80 times before banning it. That translate to 10 days of airplay and the ban seems to have made it even more popular in Britain. Spent 35 weeks in the top 40 and 5 weeks #1 to become the #1 song of 1984 in the UK. Also enjoyed hearing a commercial previewing one of my all time fave movies The Breakfast Club.
Wow this is the second straight show I have heard in which Casey told the story of Al Jarvis. Pretty much word for word on this show and the CT40 from 1/28/89 that I heard last night.

On the 2/18/89 CT40, a song called "Stand" and a group called REM debuted. It was in the same song at 38. On the 2/6/93 CT40 which I am listening to, a song called "Stand" and a group called REM debuted. Except it was not in the same song. REM debuted at 40 and Poison debuted at 39 with "Stand".

The only thing that I watched/listened to today is not the 86 offering by premiere (early 86 shows were commonplace the last 2 years), but I watched ESPN's 30 for 30 on the 86 Super Bowl Champions The Chicago Bears. One of the best 30 for 30s I have ever seen. I broke out some old K-Tel vinyl and listened to Super Star Collection from 1978. Rubicon's "I'm Gonna Take Care Of Everything" was on there and it reminded me of Sneaker's 1981 hit "More Than Just The Two Of Us." It must be a Music Mike's Flashback Favorites thing I saw on YouTube I don't know. Funny thing happened afterwards when I forgot to change the speed on my turntable from 33 to 45. I put on a 45 of Barry White, and during one his love serenades, he sounded like a cross between Satan and Jabba The Hut!

One of the best 30 for 30s I have ever seen. Indeed, 30 for 30 The '85 Bears by ESPN Films, Producer Peter Billingsley, Director Jason Hehir and Narrator Vince Vaughn is among the best ones from this TV series so far to date, being a Chicago Bears fan since 1986, I did learn new information I've never heard before after watching when it had its premiere Thursday, February 4th, 2016!
