Glad I bought the DVDs when I did. Hopefully I'll have the $$$ to buy the 50s book that is getting released. You better buy the book when you can. On the 80's book, the price has actually gone down. I remember seeing copies going for thousands of dollars last year. I'm going to have to buy a safe to store my Whitburn books

Yeah, that's what I mentioned in the original post. I certainly don't have the cash for that purchase. But thanks.

^ I believe you can still get the 60's, 70's, and 90's books for about that. The 80's one, from what I have seen, is now harder to come by. And the price, from what you can see, reflects that. There is one on ebay right now for $200.

I'm surprised they haven't went to print on demand like they did with the Hot Dance and Disco book. I was looking for this book to complete my collection of Whitburn books and I purchased it when they went to this method. I only have the Billboard The 80's chart book. I want the 70's but i'm not paying the prices other sellers want for it. You would think they would release them again on the dvd-rom's. It's obvious they didn't release alot of dvd-rom's. Only the chart books i've seen that was priced decent was the 1960's and 2000's because they still have those in stock on Whitburn's site.

I love my DVDs and use the material on it often but let's not kid ourselves, these aren't necessities for life. If I was willing to sell mine, listed one for $500 and someone wants it so bad they paid it? Good for me!

I bought mine in early 2010 and other than the 2000s which hadn't been released yet they had already been out awhile.

I'm like you if they can get that type of money, God bless them. But you talk about taking advantage of people, those books are not worth that type of money.

Didn't realize it was four years though. I had plenty of chances to get The 70's chart book back in late 90's but the price was pretty steep for that book then. I think I spent 90 dollars for The 80's chart book.

I almost didn't do the dvdroms. I really wanted the books but they weren't available anymore so finally decided to bite the bullet on the DVDs. I think when I purchased them they were all like $5-$10 off maybe. Im glad I did. I have them on my computer and iPad. Been very helpful when I wanted to reference something.

Yeah when I started to get back into getting these books I knew it was too late, I knew they were out of print. I saw that the dvd roms were produced and I had planned on getting those. Then I went through my divorce and I had to put off buying most things I didn't necessarily need. Then when things settled down it was too late. That the way it goes sometimes. The thing about those books they are few and far between. You cant hardly find used ones. Guess people cherish them. I know I would never get rid of my 1980's one or any of my Whitburn books unless I had the updated version of an older one.

Either that or Whitburn doesn't have many pressed when he did them. Perhaps since he was reproducing the actual Hot 100 he was only licensed to print x number.

I heard someone talking on here that a Cashbox book is in the works from Whitburn. I got his Record World/Music Vendor he produced a couple of years ago. They keep updating his Top Pop Singles book every two years now. Don't understand that at all unless more than likely running out of new material to print.

I work for a newspaper, and we make back issues available to customers for a fee. Considering the huge price for the book, I wonder if it might be cheaper to see if Billboard does back issues for a fee. Then, just buy the issues that aren't available through Google Books....
I know that's taking the extreme "long way around" but at this point I'll take what I can get.
I also actually SAW the books at a local record store in Pittsburgh a long time ago (when they first came out) and they were only $75 each. I SHOULD have bought it then....man!

Reading between the lines when I called Whitburn's office last year, I got the sense his business is just hanging on by a thread, which is why they are publishing the Top Pop Singles book every two years; its their best seller and guaranteed income generator. Sad.
