In this week's 70s show, Casey points out how "Devoted to You" was played earlier in the countdown at the time he played "Hopelessly Devoted to You". How many of these situations can we come up with? I know of one other such instance in 1981 when "Promises in the Dark" and "In the Dark" were on AT40.

I started with the very first show looking for a pair and it took me all the way to #21 to find one!

I know at some point around this time in 1993 on CT40 "No Rain" by Blind Melon and "Rain" by Madonna were not only in the Top 40 at the same time, they were back to back.
Edit: Just checked, it was the 10/2/93 show. "Rain" was at 16 and "No Rain" was at 17.

Two other occasions that fit the bill:
"Magic" and "Make A Little Magic" last done on 9/6/80
"One and "Not The Only One" last done on CT40 6/13/92

That last example by woolebull is appropriate. "One" represents the number of words in the title of all the subsequent examples posted so far. BTW, Chris is referring to "Mississippi" and "Mississippi Queen". Since Casey mentioned both instances where it happened in 1978 and 1981, it looks like it has to have at least 3 words in the title for him to mention it. FYI the 1981 example occurred on the 10/31/81 show when Casey said "We've got 2 songs in the survey with very similar titles. Back at #38 was Pat Benatar's "Promises in the Dark". Now at #35, the promises are gone leaving just "In the Dark". Here is Billy Squier". And this is the only week in which both are in the top 40.

If that's the criteria, you are in rare air then. It's hard to find many instances with a one word title being a part of another title, much less titles of three or more words! I still like the "Rain" "No Rain" back to back, however.

Well it's the criteria if you want it to be unusual. Just 5 weeks before this week's 70s show is the 8/19/78 show. And "You" by Rita Coolidge is in it. These songs also had that title in their title....Whenever I call YOU Friend...YOU're a Part of Me...YOU Needed Me...YOU and I...Got to Get YOU Into My Life...Fool if YOU Think It's Over...Kiss YOU All Over...Hopelessly Devoted to YOU...Miss YOU. That's 10 'You' titles if you are keeping track. Maybe someone should find out if that is the record...lol BTW, the next week, we almost had another 3 word title within a title. Cheryl Ladd debuted with "Think It Over" while "Fool if You Think It's Over" was in.

Alas, I don't think any other songs hit the 40 with "Him" when Rupert's "Him" was on there. I love questions like these...it's the unique answers that keep me interested!

For nine weeks in 1975 both Styx "Lady" and Labelle "Lady Marmalade" were in the show.

For the first two weeks in May 1972, "In the Rain" and "Walkin' In the Rain (With the One I Love)" were both in the top 40.

I checked a few charts but didn't find one with another "If" title when Bread's "If" was a hit.

I checked a few charts but didn't find one with another "If" title when Bread's "If" was a hit. No but on the AT 40 9/4/93, "If" by Janet Jackson and "If I Had No Loot" by Toni!Tony!Tone! was 7 and 6, respectfully. That same week, the two songs were 3 and 2, respectfully, on CT 40

Early 1974: Tom T Hall's "I Love" and B.B. King's "I Like To Live The Love" On 3/16/74, both I Love-Tom T. Hall and I’ll Have to Say “I Love” You in a Song-Jim Croce were in the Top 40; but that’s a two-worder.
