Employment contracts expire when they expire, which can occur on any given day.

It's interesting to me, however, that he came back for the 8/6/88 show. I'm sure he was contractually obligated, but they could have worked something out...I'm sure Hall and Oates, or at least Oates could have switched dates with Casey so Casey could have left at the end of July I think it's possible that Casey's contract may have expired at the end of July, and it's doubtful that Casey's final show was taped during the first week of August 1988. Normally, contracts expire at the end of a month, not in the middle, not early in a month. There may be a likelihood that Casey's final show may have taped at the end of July 1988. It's obvious that when ABC decided to terminate Casey's contract early rather than keep him on through the end of 1988, they settled on the end of July. Keep in mind that the shows were typically tracked 10 days in advance of the air date/chart date, so the 8/6/88 show would likely have been recorded on July 27th or so--about four days before he was officially done at ABC. Hence the reason his last show was set for the first week in August. LOL...you guys are exactly right. I didn't even think that he taped it around the end of the month. Thank you

The contract was not terminated. He was paid to sit at home and do nothing while ABC moved on. It was years ago I read Robs book but I don't believe there was even a no-compete clause. He was allowed to go to WW1 and them launch the new show immediately upon the end of his contract with ABC.

^OK--terminated may not be the right word, but it appears that the agreement between Casey and ABC was that he was to be done at the end of July.

Sad truth is it wouldn't surprise me if there were others and we never heard who they were....or if somehow a couple were still sitting at home being paid and Time Warner doesn't realize it!
I loved WCW. Was raised in a predominantly Crockett/NWA stronghold but good lord, the only entity I think that's ever been mismanaged worse is anything involving the government.

Paul, have you ever visited Wrestlecrap? The site's co-founder, RD Reynolds, co-wrote a book called "Death Of WCW". He is doing a 10th anniversary edition of the book. I haven't gotten it yet, but I heard it is a very good read.

Reminds me of how stupid I was thinking some things were cool when they weren't. But there were also some things I always thought was stupid. Like the photo I link to below I saw on wrestlecrap originally. I have posted this over the years on Facebook and when I do it gets a lot of laughs. Justifiably so! cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/302/396/gunnsfoamhat_original_display_image.jpg?1339280435

Ah yes! The Smoking Gunns of WWF's "New Generation". Thankfully, Billy Gunn had better success as a member of the New Age Outlaws & later on as Mr. Heinie (actually, it's a 3 letter word beginning with "A" that I think gets censored on here).
