Were there any extended periods when three was the norm? There were a couple shows in the latter part of 1985 (the "dead dog" 9/14 show being the first), and several in 1986 and 1987. More in '86 though, that year was easily the peak of three-LDD shows.

Today I heard the AT40 show from 10/9/93 and an LDD was done for "Will You Be There" by Michael Jackson. The song was #12.

This week's 1987 show had three LDD's. And two of those three ("Only In My Dreams" and "Didn't We Almost Have It All") were part of that week's chart. "Always Something There To Remind Me" was the only extra. Most (not all) Casey's Top 40s had three Request and Dedication extras, while most of Casey's late 1990s/early 2000s AT40s had three LDD's, though those likely often included then-current chart hits.

I know "The Voice Within" by Christina Aguilera, which was on the chart at the time, was an LDD on Casey's last AT40 in 2004. Other than that, I don't recall ever hearing a current chart hit as an R&D/LDD in that era, though I'm sure it happened.

The #27 song in the 11/9/1985 show (Boy in the Box) was used in the first LDD.
