Debuting at #82 on the December 19, 1987 Hot 100 was a song that wasn't Christmas-themed but was definitely religious in nature. "Dear Mr. Jesus" by the Christian group PowerSource, dealing with the subject of child abuse, eventually reached #61 on the chart.
And in honor of Shane MacGowan's passing a few weeks ago, here is a Christmas-themed song from that same year 1987 - "Fairytale of New York" by MacGowan's band the Pogues featuring British singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl.

About "Dear Mr. Jesus": Even though it never made the AT40 reaches, it could have been a perfect Long Distance Dedication song. And the only time it was heard on Shadoe Stevens AT40 was in March 1990 as a snippet in a medley of songs mentioning Jesus to tie in with Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus". "Dear Mr. Jesus" could have gotten a revival/second chance at the time of the January-February 1991 original Gulf War.

Here's a bonus lost 1980's Christmas classic, a track from the 1983 Elton John album "Too Low For Zero" that mentions Christmas in its title but may not be Christmas related: "Cold as Christmas (In The Middle Of The Year": www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHylaKT8S08

"Dear Mr. Jesus" could have gotten a revival/second chance at the time of the January-February 1991 original Gulf War. Maybe, but the main theme of the song was child abuse. It wasn't generic enough for people to tie it in to the Gulf War, such as "Show Me the Way" or "From a Distance" were.

On Billboard's Christmas singles chart from December 21, 1985 were two songs by then-current rock acts. Bryan Adams' "Christmas Time" was at #7 and peaked at #4 the following week, and also hit #31 on the Top Rock Tracks chart that season.
And originally recorded live in 1975 and released as a promo single in 1981, Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" was the B-side of "My Hometown" in 1985. It was at #10 on the December 21 Christmas chart and rose to #1 a week later.

Both of those tracks are among my favorite Christmas Hits from the 1980s. Great choices!

I agree with the second one, OWTC. It was recorded live at C.W. Post College on Long Island. At the engineering board was the great Jimmy Iovine. The arrangement was inspired by the Crystals' version from the Phil Spector Christmas album (1963). You can hear how the song brings out the little kid in Bruce and the guys.

Back during happier times for this duo, before lawsuits and restraining orders, Daryl Hall and John Oates released their covers of Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" as a promo single in 1983. I say "covers" because Hall and Oates each sang a different version of the song on either side of the single. In addition, the duo recorded a newer version for their album Home for Christmas in 2006, which so far (unless their animosity gets settled) is their only Christmas album and last studio album.

On the last Hot 100 of 1982, for December 25 (which remained frozen for the week ending January 1, 1983), Janet Jackson's first single "Young Love" would show no sign of the massive success she would achieve just a few years later. The song was up from #79 to #73 that week but would only reach #64.
The B-side of the single, "The Magic Is Working", would be sung by Janet earlier in the year on an episode of Diff'rent Strokes (where she played Willis' girlfriend Charlene).

They both debuted on the Hot 100 for September 24, 1988, both peaked on November 12 (at #48 and #54, respectively), and they were both still hanging on the chart for December 31. At #89 was "Boy, I've Been Told" by Sa-Fire in its next-to-last week on the Hot 100, while at #97 was "Cars with the Boom" by L'Trimm in its final chart week.

On the first British singles chart of 1980 (for the week ending January 5), the title track from The Clash's London Calling was holding at #29, peaking at #11 two weeks later.
Also from the album was the song "Clampdown", which according to Wikipedia was the follow-up single but only released in Australia.

Devo's follow-up single to "Whip It" - the title track from their album Freedom of Choice - was at #105 on the Bubbling Under chart for January 10, 1981, having previously peaked at #103.
As a bonus, here's the first single from the Freedom of Choice album, which was originally released in 1980 and did not chart in the U.S. - "Girl U Want".
