I figured I'd start a thread - albeit late - on this subject.
What was your favorite song of 1987?
I'd put mine as being "Land of Confusion" by Genesis. I think it's the best of the group's top 40 offerings, and one of the best of the Phil Collins era.
"Little Lies" by Fleetwood Mac would be my runner-up.
Please, let us know what you liked the most about 1987.

"Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake. This is my favourite year of the 80's and there are numerous songs that I would consider runners up.

Based on my Personal Top 30 chart, if it had to be limited to songs that made up the Top 100 of 1987, my top song would be "You Got It All" by the Jets (my #4 song of 1987). However, my #1 song for all of 1987 was "I'd Still Say Yes" by Klymaxx, which peaked at #18 on the Hot 100 in July of that year.

Hands down it's gotta be Genesis' defining song "In too deep" simply soul rendering performance by Phil and the guys. Try listening to this song (on repeat) driving hundreds of miles going home late at night......it tears at your every being....Nuff Said.

I Just Died in Your Arms, wore that 45 out. Also, my favorite song of the year. It's interesting to see how much agreement there is at least among those who've responded to date. The remainder of my top ten of 1987: 2-Land of Confusion-Genesis, 3-Every Little Kiss-Bruce Hornsby & Range, 4- Little Lies-Fleetwood Mac, 5-I'll Still Be Loving You-Restless Heart, 6-When Smokey Sings-ABC, 7-Big Love-Fleetwood Mac, 8-Valerie-Steve Winwood, 9-The Final Countdown-Europe, 10-Rhythm's Gonna Get You-Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine.

You guys surprise me with some of your songs....I'm not judging, just saying.
A couple 1987 songs I always loved -
"The Way It Is" - Hornsby (love the drums/piano/lyrics) "Right On Track" - Breakfast Club (Great "Car-singer") "The Finer Things" - Winwood (First CD I ever bought) "Something So Strong" - Crowded House (from a great album) "With or Without You" - U2 (Made a stride in Modern Rock crossover) "Shake You Down" - Gregory Abbott (a-wayo-well) I still love to see a woman's face when she sings/dances to "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" INXS and REM had a big year, two of my "favorite 10 bands"
I was most turned off by a dozen+ sappy ballads and totally boring songs.
