John Cougar: Jack & Diane Suckin' on chilli dog outside the Tastee FreezTastee-Freez is still around, with freestanding locations in many states, like Illinois, Maryland, and Virginia (but not Indiana). Some Wienerschnitzel locations in California and Arizona have Tastee-Freez inside them. I have one within walking distance of where I live.

From a song that hit the Top 40 during Casey's second AT40 run: Sexy Can I by Ray J.
Sexy can I, just pardon my manners Girl how you shake it, got a playa like (oh) It's a Kodak moment, let me go and get my camera All I wanna know is, sexy can I

Even later (2011) Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" says "Capture that with a Kodak", which assuming he's referring to personal cameras were virtually gone by that point, and phased out altogether in a couple of years. And Paul Simon's 1973 hit "Kodachrome" refers to a product that ceased to exist in 2009.

I considered one in January when I was replacing the camera I lost at Yosemite (long story--it's probably in a raven's nest now ), but I went with another Canon instead.

I thought of this song earlier thinking of the songs that were the first number ones of various decades on American Top 40. And when I started thinking about the lyrics I realized, with horror, that this song totally fits this category. From "Replay" by Iyaz, which actually peaked at the end of 2009 into the first couple of weeks of 2010:
Shawty's like a melody in my head That I can't keep out Got me singin' like Na na na na everyday It's like my iPod's stuck on replay

From "Superwoman" by Karyn White:

Nowadays, he'd be glued to his iPhone...

Asking seriously, as I've never owned one, nor never will. I assumed they were still around.

They are becoming, rather quickly, a thing of the past.

Not actually part of a top 40 hit song, but in this week's 5/25/74 show Casey promotes an upcoming special and tells listeners "Get some batteries for your transistor", a technological reference likely to be lost on most current listeners. Today he'd probably be telling listeners to charge up their smartphones to hear it.

They are becoming, rather quickly, a thing of the past. They just recently announced a new model for the iPod touch, if that means anything.
