David Guetta and Sia have been in the Top 10 for the last few months with, "Titanium". Which makes me wonder what other elements have made the top 40? I can think of four elements in songs. See if you can get the ones I'm thinking of and add any that you know.

Thought of three such song titles from my era of the 70's:
"Love is Like Oxygen" "Tin Man" "Gold"
And, linking an element to a group's name : "Iron Butterfly".

The "Nickel" Song by Melanie
Many "Silver" songs - "White Silver Sands" and "Silver Bird", for example
Many "Neon" songs - "In Neon" and "Neon Moonlight" for example
Form of word - "Kryptonite" (from Krypton) by 3 Doors Down
Did it any top 40 charts? - "Lithium" by Nirvana
Wrong form of word - many "Lead" songs!

"Kryptonite" was the name of the song, so it counts. That was one I couldn't think of. Good call on Melanie's "Nickel" hit...hadn't thought of that one. I had "Neon Moonlight" by Roscoe Martinez but couldn't think of other Neon songs. Silver, Tin, Oxygen, Gold all have hit. I do not think "Lithium" hit the Top 40. That puts us up to 7. That's not that many...but we can give a 1/4 of a credit to "lead"

Absolutely...we should make it however an element has hit the Top 40...title, group, album (Pocket Full of Kryptonite). Doesn't seem like the elements are that well represented.

Does "Led" Zeppelin count for lead (even though it's misspelled)?
After looking at the Periodic Table, I was reminded of Freddie "Mercury" and the KISS album "Double 'Platinum'", which reached #22.

If band names count, then Nickelback has had several top 40 hits.

Absolutely Nickleback should be considered. If we had to listen to them, then they do count :-D
How many songs actually hit the top 40 with the word "Gold" in it? I can think of four off the top of my head...one number one:
Heart of Gold Gold-John Stewart Gold-Spandau Ballet Fields of Gold-Sting
Any others (not counting "golden")?

If band names count, then Nickelback has had several top 40 hits. Neon Trees are on the current chart. And back in the 60s there was the Neon Philharmonic. In the early 70s, there was Tin Tin ("Toast and Marmalade for Tea".)

Shirley Bassey's " Goldfinger", title song from the James Bond film, was top 10 during early 1965 .
