Well fortunately my local stations haven't switched yet, and even if they do start playing the holiday music, it will likely be around late November/early December on a part-time basis, meaning enough to carry the regular AT40 shows.

It's not an AT40 affiliate, but the first station in the U.S. to make the switch is none other than one of my local stations.

Enjoy “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” 19 times a day from now until December 25th. And from all of us on the board, Trick or Treat, and Happy Thanksgiving!

AC formatted WEBE 108 in Connecticut doesn't carry "AT40-The 70's" nor "AT40-The 80's"-However,they'll flip to holiday music on 11/29/19.

I'm channeling my inner lasvegaskid with the first part of this post... Christmas music comes to SiriusXM radio starting this Friday, November 1 at noon Eastern time! Enlighten is switching from Gospel/Christian music to all Christmas music starting then. Activate your receivers if they aren't on... you don't want to miss this!!!
Now back in regular mode...
Locally in Detroit, WNIC is asking listeners when they want the station to flip to Christmas music. Options are November 1, 8 15 or 21. Given that the station has flipped to Christmas music on a Thursday in past years, and given that November 21 is the only Thursday option this year, I wonder if WNIC might hold off until November 21 to flip? Last year, they flipped on November 8. If you are looking for a 70s option that will feature the weekly countdowns throughout November and December, try CKWW (AM580 Windsor/Detroit). They air the show Sunday nights from 7 - 10pm Eastern time.

On the one hand the increasing impatience and on the other hand the optimization and increase of sales revenues. I think that for the little ones the waiting time until Christmas will be almost unbearably long.

CKWW is my 'last chance' option for the '70s show, in case I have missed it earlier in the week, or if I just feel like hearing it again. The station pays homage to legendary Detroit/Windsor top 40 powerhouse 'the Big 80' CKLW, one of the great AM top 40 stations of the '60s and '70s.

I try to avoid Christmas Music until the last possible moment--but I was at a store today (Halloween) that put up it's Christmas Tree. When I asked why they said that Thanksgiving came a week later than usual and they thought by putting up the tree it would get people into the Holiday Spirit. Since it was Halloween , I thought they might attract the wrong kind of spirits.... I am glad I no longer work in radio, I couldn't imagine working at a station that flipped to all Christmas music for a month or two and pretending I really enjoyed working there--must get old playing the same 100 songs; not to mention some of the horrible drivel that some people release as new Christmas favorites.

I love Christmas, but I don't know how that practice has become so popular. It initially started as a way to lift people's spirits after 9/11, but like so many other things it became all about the money. For whatever reason, radio station ratings skyrocket with the Christmas format, and that's all the station owners care about. I do agree with those who wish the Christmas playlists wouldn't be so darned repetitive. Of course you have to play the classics in regular rotation, but there are so many lesser-known songs that I used to hear which are really good but never get touched anymore.

Last year, they flipped on November 8. WNIC flipped to Christmas music this morning. While they said their poll showed overwhelming support for starting November 1, one of their rivals, 98.7 The Breeze, flipped to all Christmas music yesterday which likely influenced their decision to start today. So now Detroit has two local stations playing the same 100 Christmas songs over and over and over again... Truth be told, I listened to "Holly" on Sirius/XM on my way to work this morning. I actually heard three versions of Christmas songs I hadn't heard of before... before hearing Burl Ives' "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas". I knew that streak wouldn't go on too long... but it was nice to hear newer versions of Christmas songs.
