WODC & WMJI flipped today, much later than they have in the past. WODC is still listing regular songs on their “Recently Played” list for today, along with some Christmas songs mixed in. They’ve done that for the last couple of weeks, and yet still played the regular AT40s from 1984 and 1987. I don’t know when and if they might switch to the holiday AT40s, though I think I speak for a lot of us here when I say I hope they play a full four hour 1978 or 1979 show if offered.

I saw the logo had switched to the holiday logo on the FB page which is why I assumed (and you know what happens when you assume)...
It's not far off though, a post on the FB page says they go all-Christmas tomorrow at 6am.
On another note, the former morning guy on the station I used to work weekends at in Northwest PA 10+ years ago is now doing mornings and is PD for WMXY.

Does The River 98.7 FM Savannah, Georgia carry AT40: The 80's? This station is in Christmas music mode every November-December.

A little off topic: As of December 1, 2017 former AT20 AC and later AT10 AC affiliate WLIT 93.9 FM Chicago dropped after 4 years its "MY FM" tagline returning the 1989-2013 "LITE FM" tagline while still on its all Christmas music format which will last until Christmas day. The station even recently bought back the weeknight Delilah show! Now, if anytime soon WLS 94.7 FM Chicago drops for the second time AT40: The 70's even when 2018 starts, would the new WLIT LITE FM 93.9 FM pick up for weekends AT40: The 80's?

December 16, 2017, Hits 100 FM Aruba playing AT20 Top 60 Christmas Songs (Part 2) . Unusual for a tropical country station. They played the top 60 Christmas songs part 1 last week and on the Tuesday night replay. They played the regular 80's show on the Wednesday night replay.

I shudder to think we will be hearing Christmas music very soon. In some cases in a few weeks. The same overplayed songs that have been played over and over, year after year. Mariah Carey, Band Aid, Jose whats-his-face, Bing Crosby etc..Call me crazy and I know some stations do this but how about and hear me out, Christmas music gets played...wait for it a few weeks before Christmas instead of the day after Halloween in some cases. Why do we need two months of Christmas music? I don’t get it. I get that I’m in the minority here but it’s still annoying. Maybe because I want to believe it’s still Summer, even though we’re into October and it’s now Fall, I don’t want to think about Winter and freezing cold and wearing jackets, gloves and hats.
Ok rant over.

A few among this message board may remember a time when radio stations waited until the 2nd or 3rd week of December before adding Christmas titles into playlist rotation. And even then, it was in moderation with just 2 or 3 songs per hour. Once into Christmas week, with phone requests for various holiday songs increasing, stations were playing Christmas titles with every other (or every 3rd) song. (Do you remember that Billboard itself had a Christmas "chart" that appeared only a few times each year?) On Christmas Eve, many stations converted into 24-hour, commercial-free seasonal jukeboxes. And after Christmas, a few stations continued playing holiday music - once again in moderation - until New Years Day, to reflect the holiday season's school and work vacation schedules. And that was it until the following mid-December. At the same time Christmas music was reintroduced every year, local radio station playlists back in the day (i.e. printed singles surveys), like Billboard's Hot 100, continued through December to list new Top 40 music additions every week. It seemed to be an adequate on-air balance. However, believe it or not, some listeners didn't get enough Christmas music on the radio back then. For those who wanted more, record stores always had a special section in December that was stocked with albums and new holiday single releases. In moderation at the right time, listening to Christmas music on the radio mixed with current hits helped set the holiday spirit -- just as Santa Claus came down the chimney. Let it play! Let it play! Let it play!

On Directv, there are quite a few music channels. One, channel 858, has Christmas music year round. Seems pretty extreme.
I work retail and two years ago, our store started playing Christmas music after Thanksgiving, even then it made us wish we were at the top of the clock tower with a sniper rifle (made us crazy). Last year, the store spared us by only playing Christmas music on Christmas Eve.

Let it play! Let it play! As a DJ from 1979-1993, that was the way it was at the stations I worked at--Christmas music lightly sprinkled in from Thanksgiving til about the middle of December. Going with all Christmas tunes started on the 20th through usually the day after the Holiday(s) ended. I recall I was a retail manager for the next 10 years and I made sure we played Christmas music usually just every other CD so my employees (and me) didn't get sick of the music by the time the Holiday rolled around. I guess now retailers (and radio) think that playing that music earlier (and more often) will get people to be nicer and open up the ol pocketbook more often.
