Therefore we can count on KOKZ to play regular AT40s on their main stream? Good news if true, especially as IIRC there's a four hour December 1978 countdown coming up soon. Two other stations in the larger Cedar Rapids area have already gone all-holiday (an AM/country and an FM/pop), so I'm counting on it. dL

KCLH LaCrosse, Wisconsin, an affiliate of both AT40/70s and /80s, per a poster to RadioInsight.com early today (30), has switched to all-holiday.
In the same post he also mentions a competitor of KOKZ in Waterloo, Iowa, 93.5 KCVM. {crossing fingers}

If nobody else has mentioned it, WMMX, Dayton, is all-Christmas, now.

Bumping this only to ask one question: Can countdownmike, or anyone, confirm that the Christmas show for Dec 21/22 will be, as some have suggested, a repeat of the revamped 1971 show?

I'm late doing my blog. It will be up tomorrow. The final Christmas show is AT10 Christmas Around The World. The songs are the same as in previous specials, but they edit in stories Casey has told about how sending Christmas cards was almost banned by the post office, the origination of the Christmas tree, etc. I was hoping for the 1971 or 1973 show, too. AT40 returns December 29 but no idea what shows are coming.

I'd be stunned if WQSR ever went all-Christmas to begin with; that programming tool has been a staple at AC radio for well over a decade, as well as stations from other formats, whereas WQSR and all the other Adult Hits stations out there are anything but hard-rocking rock stations, with the intermittent 'oh wow' song thrown in.
It's an extremely irreverent format to begin with and WQSR's sweepers are as irreverent as any other similarly-formatted station, so forming that coalition was probably their tongue-in-cheek method of teasing their competitors for flipping a month ahead of Christmas Day.

I am listening to an AT10 show from 10/2/04 and Casey has twice mentioned a Christmas promotion urging listeners to send in memories and LDDs for it. Said while it was too early to chop down a Christmas tree, it was not too early for the staff to get ready for the season. The hair on the back of my neck is rising!!!!!

Not sure if anyone listens to AT40-The 80's or not on WMJJ Magic 96.5 out of Birmingham AL. But this past Friday they started their non-stop Christmas tunes. So I guess I'll have to listen on the iHeartRadio app for the rest of the year... Or is the app still playing random shows instead of the previous weekend episodes?

^That's unbelievable. It's not even Halloween yet, and some stations are already firing up the 24/7 Xmas music. I would be curious to know which demographic(s) find it in any way appealing to be listening to non-stop holiday music when the trees aren't even bare yet (even here in Minnesota!)...

The reason they do it is that it is always ratings gold. Despite the mass majority of us despising it and even a general consensus of the population, it is a huge ratings hit and the advertisers love it.
Look at the WODC Facebook page and when Mike comments about AT40, The comments he receives are often when are you going Christmas?
I will never understand it. I have no desire to hear a Christmas song until the day after Thanksgiving. And well I never would want to hear all Christmas for a month I do understand the importance of having a station in the market that offers it for those who want it. It's just tough for us because the format of the station that offers it typically is the same format that we enjoy listening to the rest of the year and it disappears. As do the AT40 shows

The sad thing is that this year one of our other adult contemporary stations has also gone all Christmas. I guess the two stations are in competition with one another. I thought it was super early a couple of years back when they started playing Christmas music on Halloween, but to do it a week before Halloween is absolutely insane!!
