Ive noticed on both the Premiere and Sirius versions of the 70s shows that "Best of My Love" is edited. As I was born in 77 I never heard this song in its heyday on the radio. My question is was this version they played an edited radio version CHR stations of the day aired or was it regularly edited by AT40 then for time constraints?

I can only vouch for the single that I heard back in 1977 - it was not edited (as far as I know, anyway) - I played this song on the radio, and remember it being around 3:42 in length.

Is paul referring to the Eagles or the Emotions song? The Eagles version of BOML has an unmistakable edit that I have heard on every AT40 show on the 2 networks in which that song has been played the last 2 years. Sounds like they edited the song down for the 45. Kind of Steve Winwood's "While You See a Chance" which has an obvious chord change right before the bridge that was done just for the 45.

Best of My Love by the Eagles has been edited quite frequently. Probably the most noticable edit can be heard after "I Guess That Wasn't Enough oh oh oh oh". Sometimes you'll hear "But here in my heart I'll give you the Best of My Love", other times you'll hear "But Oh Sweet Darling" followed by a pause and then "you'll get the Best of My Love". I think AT40 usually plays the latter version while oldies stations will play the first one

Sorry, I was referring to the Eagles. Me being all current and all I just listened got around to the 1975 show Premiere played late last month and I heard the same edit on the Sirius show a couple of weeks ago.

All shows played when the song was dropping played the edited version. I think AT40 played the full version of "Best Of My Love" when played after the show expanded to four hours (especially when it was an LDD).

The 45 version is shorter with the choppy edit. I imagine that most of the time AT40 played it due to them usually playing 45's.
WLLW (station I work for) actually has the edit and we're a classic rock station. I dont understand why, but oh well...

Hold on a second---WTH (Why the heck) is a classic rock station playing ANY edited version of any song by the Eagles?
The Emotions tune was never edited AFAIK, and I was in college when it dominated the airwaves, and it would have easily been the #1 single of the year in 1977 if it hadn't been for Debby Boone.
I can certainly see why the Eagles tune was edited given Premiere's propensity for chopping tunes for better or worse, although a quick peek at Wikipedia disclosed that the single version ran 3:25, vs. 4:34 for the CD version.

At last check, the True Oldies Channel (Scott Shannon) plays the edited "Best Of My Love".
Honestly, I do prefer the full version.

So, this IS an edited version for radio and not an edited version AT40 would do regularly themselves for time reasons?

Paul, yes, it is a true edit.
Marv: I dont get it either. In my opinion, Classic Rock stations should NEVER play an edit unless its for swearing (Money, Who Are You etc...)
We have edit of things that I dont even remember there being an edit for. Like What It Takes by Aerosmith & Hysteria by Def Leppard. The 45's had the long version on them so I dont get those at all.
We also have edits of things like Let It Ride by BTO & 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago. But have long versions of Twilight Zone by Golden Earring and Do You Feel Like We Do by Frampton.
Its not totally our decision, Dial Global provides us with the tunes on the computer. Though if I was PD, I'd be saying something to them.

Radio stations have always been odd like that. I remember WAPE had the radio edit of most everything but they had the album versions of Ordinary World and Bed of Roses. I always wondered why. I guess I got my answer above, it was supplied by whoever.
But I agree on Classic Rock. Edited on there seems rather strange. I feel the same about anything on satellite radio too but that's beating a dead horse at this point since that won't change unless there's a philosophical one first.

Most oldies and classic rock stations play the complete version of "Best of My Love." This is, no doubt, due to the fact that it appears unedited on all CDs. In fact, I had heard that way for so long (at least 20 years now) that I had forgotton about the 45 version. The single was edited, and this was the version that was played on the radio back in late 1974 and early 1975. (At least, AM radio, FM AOR stations undoubtedly played the complete album cut.)
Kinda like "Lyin' Eyes." In 1975, WHAS (among other stations) played this track, and always mentioned it as being from the album One of These Nights. But the edited single was the version played. In fact the first time I heard the complete track, I thought it sounded weird with the "On the other side of town a boy is waiting" verse. Still do.

the version that cuts the line "Here in my heart, I give you the best oif my love" is the true 45 version. (and it is up there with WEHILE YOU SEE A CHANCE as one of the WORST 45 edits I have ever heard, almost like a record skip!

It sounds like the horrid edits I heard on a 93 AT40 of "Dreamlover" and a 95 show of "You Don't Know How it Feels"
