WWIS 1260 AM programming is also heard on 105.3 FM in Black River Falls. I don't know if at sunset they lower the power on the AM side, which is required by the FCC to continue running after sunset or if they shut down the AM and run programming on the FM translator only after sunset. Their country FM is on 99.7. did not know that--is it something new? Their home page used to show only the AM and the 99.7 stream options. I run them off of iTunes now, so I no longer go to their home page. Unsure what you mean about the AM being required to continue on-air after sunset, as they used to be a daytime-only AM station. Do know that they no longer run a sign-off announcement on their stream as they used to do in December (and maybe January as well--can't remember) when the AM would be required to sign off before the end of AT40. Fun Fact: Not only will we be hearing Through the Years as a LDD two weeks in a row, we'll also be hearing it after song #25 both weeks (after We Are the Young this week and after Hungry Eyes next week).

Considering how often Premiere cuts down optional extras (they often sound like they would in the countdown if AT40 in the 80s were still three hours), I found it noteworthy that the version of "Careless Whisper" played was if anything even longer than the one that radio usually plays, with the extended intro and all the verses and choruses.

Why was this particular week a regular countdown rather than the first part of the year-end countdown?

Probably because the following week (1/02/1988) was frozen, and by this point AT40 was airing the entire year-end countdown in one sitting.

Probably because the following week (1/02/1988) was frozen, and by this point AT40 was airing the entire year-end countdown in one sitting. Yep, exactly. AT40 followed Billboard in that aspect, so the year-end would air on the weekend of the frozen chart. That began on 12/31/1983, the first year AT40 counted down a top 100 in one single weekend. Though in 1983 and 1984, AT40 compiled their own year-end chart instead of Billboard's. ETA: For 1985, 1986, and 1987, the frozen chart fell on the first Saturday of the following year, so the last weekend of those years was a regular countdown. 1988 would have two year-enders air in the calendar year (unless local stations aired it on Sundays, then that honor would go to 1989).

You'll also get to hear Casey, err, Shaggy, partially introduce New Order's "True Faith" at #32. Listen for that if you haven't heard it before, or if you have, enjoy it again. ETA: For those that have the AT40 shows from 1998-present, Casey does his Shaggy voice in the 2/13/1999 show, ironically, also introducing the week's #32 song, "Luv Me Luv Me" by Shaggy featuring Janet. Zoinks!!!

My station did generally air AT40 on Sundays, but they actually ran it New Year's Eve that year, so I actually did hear two AT40 year-enders in 1988. They played the 1989 show, however, on New Year's Day, so no AT40 year-enders within 1989.
