Had to chuckle on the 1980 show today when Casey commented that Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright" came from a movie that had not done well at the box office. For two reasons: 1) It would only take a couple of years and a lot of airings on pay-cable TV for "Caddyshack" to become the cult comedy classic it remains today. 2) Two and three songs after Loggins' hit came two other movie songs from films that REALLY bombed, and are NOT cult classics today, "Late In the Evening" at #6, from "One Trick Pony", which proved that starring actor Paul Simon should stick to writing songs and singing, and "Driving My Life Away" at #5 from the all-but-forgotten "Roadie", starring that other great actor, Meat Loaf! Wasn't Meat Loaf featured in that mother of all cult films "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"? (Although given how weird that movie is, that fact probably proves your tongue-in-cheek comment about him.) Oh yes, he was 'Eddie' the biker boyfriend of 'Columbia', who was the character my long-ago ex-girlfriend played every weekend at the midnight showings back in 1980-81. But that's another story... Anyway, Mr. Loaf was only in one speaking scene, and sang one song ("Hot Patootie") before 'Dr. Frank N. Furter' (Tim Curry) served him up to the party guests. Who wants some delicious meatloaf? Yum! He actually was quite good in his role!

Don't forget "Xanadu" a movie that had a better soundtrack than the movie. The only thing I remember from that movie was roller skating, and everyone looked like they swallowed Barium. There was an actor by the name of Michael Beck who also starred in one of my favorite cult classic films The Warriors from 1979. Another footnote about "I'm Alright"-The backing vocals were sung by the late great Eddie Money. As you may know, "Xanadu", aka 'the movie that killed Michael Beck's promising acting career', has become a minor cult classic as well. Midnight showings with audience sing-alongs, a la 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'. Anyway, my OTHER ex girlfriend in the summer of 1980 (different one than the one I mention above) absolutely LOVED this movie for some unknown reason, so I sat through it twice that summer. The soundtrack is WAY better than the film, IMHO.

Rodney Dangerfield made "Caddyshack" a cult classic-No doubt about it! He and Bill Murray. My favorite Rodney line, right at the end (and I'll have to censor it): "Hey everybody, we're all gonna get 'put to bed'!

Typo of the Week: the 1980 cue sheet attributes Charlie Daniels' "Legend of Wooley Swamp" to... Bob Seger?

I thought that was funny too that Casey made that comment about Caddyshack. I remember when the movie was out, and there being a decent amount of talk about it, so I was surprised that was the perception at the time. I was a kid though (and too young to see the movie when it was in theaters), so my memory might be a little foggy there.

If Shadoe would have made a similar comment about Caddyshack II with "Nobody's Fool" by Kenny Loggins in 1988, that assessment would have been more accurate. Caddyshack II was one of the worst sequels ever made IMO

Ultimately Caddyshack made about $40 million on a $6 million budget so it proved quite successful financially, though I don't know how much of that was its original theatrical run vs. later home video, TV play, reissues, etc.
By contrast, the 1988 sequel Caddyshack II pulled only about $12 million on a $20 million budget, so that did flop--but Kenny Loggins did have another hit song from it ("Nobody's Fool"). Interesting how the two Caddyshack films provided bookends on Loggins' string of 1980s soundtrack hits.

'Jaws 2', 'More American Graffiti', 'Grease 2, 'Staying Alive' ('SNF 2'), the list goes on and on...

10/15/83 could work for next week, as could 10/10 or 10/17/81. Every other year was played in the last few weeks and thus probably too soon to revisit (and 1981 is borderline.) Though I could see 1986 being the B to a 1982 A. KOLA-FM is listing 10/18/86 as the show two weekends from now.

I like both the cult classic Xanadu feature film and soundtrack, while Grease's soundtrack is better than its film, so I'm a rare opposite in this regard!

Sequels are usually disappointing. Back To The Future, for example. I don’t know about Xanadu, since I’ve never seen it so I can’t comment, the music from the soundtrack is great though.

Doubtful it could be a standalone since 1986 just had a standalone not even a month before. If it is the 'B' option the 'A' has to be either 10/17/81 or 10/23/82. And I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a 1981 show here given we're just coming out of a 4 month drought of 1981 shows. Plus 10/17/81 last aired in 2012 making it a good candidate for a repeat at this time.
