This is the second time in a row that the July 9, 1988 show aired the week after July 4, 1987 show. This is a rare occurrence that we get two "A" shows in a row with the faster-paced 1987 music package. Speaking of rare occurrences, Casey actually said “I Want Your Sex” in this week’s 87 show. Ahh, I’m telling.... . Lol

Great segment on the '87 show about Mark King's background and trip to America before picking up the bass and joining Level 42. I lold picturing Mark's Clint Eastwood milkman routine.

Songs are also often chosen as Extras if they debut on the Hot 100 inside the Top 40 the following week. Yeah... especially in circumstances like those, how else do you include a song in the countdown? And July 1987 only has two Casey-hosted shows, out of a possible four. IMO, Madonna was a great selection. Just can't please some people...

^My Facebook watcher just alerted me to this. I hope it was an honest mistake by Premiere, and likely corrected quickly before most of the 80s affils logged on to pick it up. A lot of Star1079.com listeners have gotta be puzzled as heck...

Would love to know the whole story on this. Meanwhile, it's a near diversion to hear a guest-hosted show.

Its becuz its not a real station, just an internet station. it USED To be a real station in Columbus Ohio. So likely run by an enthusiast, like us!! =) I think it uses live365 which any one of us can use to put up our own station.

Pitiful, when Premiere has to go to a future chart, for an OE, instead of what's on the current week's Hot 100. 'Who's that girl?' debuted on the 7-11 Hot 100. How quickly you forget... It's been previously mentioned on here about extras, as the 7/11 and 7/18 shows were both guest-hosted and aren't likely to air, and that song is already in the 7/25 countdown. What do you expect Premiere to do? *eye roll* Extras are simply that...EXTRAS. And, oh yeah...they are OPTIONAL, too. This is why I'm not kvetching about another such entry this week, the album version of "Here I Go Again," when as most people know the original shows used the different single version... dL

Imagine getting upset about what 4 random songs whose sole purpose exist to fill time are chosen each week to run outside a 30+ year old countdown rerun. If they wanted to run 4 songs from all different years, who cares. They are optional and are just there to fill a time gap.

I think a few of the extras on some of the 1988 shows didn't actually chart until 1989?

Optional extras this week are the same as was used the last time before 2019 (which is the page we're now on). So gripe away if you must.

Hour #1: "Fast Car" - Tracy Chapman (#43) Hour #2: "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns n' Roses (#56) Hour #3: "Simply Irresistible" - Robert Palmer (#46) Hour #4: "Monkey" - George Michael (#42; highest debut)
7/18/81:
Hour #1: "Fire And Ice" - Pat Benatar (#61; highest debut) Hour #2: "Really Wanna Know You" - Gary Wright (#59) Hour #3: "Cool Love" - Pablo Cruise (#41) Hour #4: "Who's Crying Now" - Journey (#70; debuted)
