Ah, "Last Train To London"! Probably the most 'disco-ey' ELO ever got during their 1979-80 'Disco? Very!' (play on the LP title 'Discovery') period. SO digging this forgotten song...

Ah, "Last Train To London"! Probably the most 'disco-ey' ELO ever got during their 1979-80 'Disco? Very!' (play on the LP title 'Discovery') period. SO digging this forgotten song... "Last Train to London" is one of my absolute favorites from ELO and from that time. A shame it was only on the top 40 for two weeks. I've always felt that if ELO had released that song as the first or maybe even second single on the Discovery LP, it would have been a huge hit. Radio listeners appeared to more or less be done with disco by the time "Last Train" came out. Another song that might fit that same mold is Chic's "My Feet Keep Dancing", which topped out on the Bubbling Under chart around the same time in January 1980--that song would've likely been a much bigger hit if released a year earlier.

^That's what I meant - for the reasons I stated, the show is not a "B" show (besides, we just had 1985 as a "B" show a month ago). Can never be totally sure until it's officially announced, but it seems like it almost has to be an 'A' -- 1985 (and more importantly in this case, 1984) hasn't been played since November.

Premiere optional extras for 2/2/80: Hour #1: "Him" - Rupert Holmes (#47) Hour #2: "Don't Give Up On Us" - David Soul (Archive extra) Hour #3: "Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)" - Pink Floyd (#51) Hour #4: "Sexy Eyes" - Dr. Hook (NR) Of note: "Sexy Eyes" didn't debut in the Hot 100 until two weeks later but more or less this song was likely chosen in tribute to Ray Sawyer who died a few weeks ago. OE's for 2/1/86 are the same as 2014. "Sexy Eyes" was indeed chosen in memory of Ray Sawyer; in his outro Larry also notes the passing of Daryl Dragon ("the Captain") who had the song at #2 in this countdown, which then follows.

Besides "Last Train to London" I would think "Shine a Little Love" by ELO was more disco oriented perhaps.

Here in Austria there was the single "Shine A Little Love" from the album "Discovery" first, then came "Don´t bring me down". And probably this song increased the sales of the album "Discovery", so that "Last Train To London" wasn´t so successful as a single anymore. "Don´t bring me down" is still considered a real party classic. Not to forget also the exclamation "Russsss", probably derived from the German word "Gruß" for "salute". And the "salute" could be connected with the recording studio "Musicland" - and the sound engineer Reinhold Mack - in Munich. By the way: The album "Discovery" was released in June 2011 as a CD Collection (Epic / Legacy 501905 2) with three extras: On The Run (Home Demo) Second Time Around (Home Demo) and Little Town Flirt

Larry Morgan got it wrong, for 'Sexy eyes'. He said, the late Ray Sawyer sang lead on it, but, it was definitely Dennis Locorriere.

Every station I've used DAR for 1980 has been missing segments....FYI you may want to check your recordings.

For the past 6 months or more everything I used DAR for gives you extra seconds every other track so when you playback the songs they repeat a second or two when they are at the end of the segment. Is anyone else who uses them getting that 'hiccup' in the songs that roll between segments? It's annoying especially since it's a pay service.

It is annoying but I correct it (if I want to save it) when I merge the files and used Audacity to fix it. To me, it's even more annoying when segments don't even record correctly. I get that at times.

Thanks for the information, it was June 2001 and not June 2011. In the meantime I have found out that "Discovery" and "Time" were released as "Two Originals" back in 1989 (Epic 465224 2).
