^Hey, that's cool! The 80s series will be exhausted proper. dth1971 - I have a feeling that your prediction about the 1985 YE being played next year just might be correct! I wonder if they'll be sparing with 1985 shows throughout the year or will be like they did with 1986 and offer that year intermittently as an A & B, at the rate of one a month up through November?

And we still have yet to find out the year ender for AT40: The 70's (I hope it's 1972 as the A option and 1976 as the B option).

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the amazing coincidence from this past week's shows. 12/18/82 and 12/17/77 each featured a SIX-song train of tunes that moved up the same number of spots and therefore were back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back two weeks in a row and an additional two songs on one end that were back-to-back for consecutive weeks but in a different order. On 12/18/82 #6 through #11 all held their positions (#7 and #8 were the only two that weren't peaking) while "Truly" at #5 and "The Girl Is Mine" at #4 switched places. On 12/17/77 #13 through #18 all moved up two spots (having been #15 through #20 the previous week) while "Hey Deanie" moved from #22 to #19 and "Your Smiling Face" moved from #21 to #20. Of course having a lot of songs stalling isn't as surprising in 1982 because of the Bill Wardlow-induced chart wonkiness but it's still quite a feat to have that many in a row.

Crazy--almost hard to believe this was posted for 11 months and nobody here knew until now. Good to know it's '86 this time around--looking forward to it!

Looks like that playlist was block-copied from Old Radio Shows, typos and all. (That site can still be accessed through Internet Archive.org, while we wait for its possible return).

Looks like we'll have a fresh set of Optional Extras for the 1986 year-ender. When the top half of the show was played back in 2009, the OE's were songs that charted in the 50s and 60s on the Top 100 of 1986. My predictions for the extras are as follows - in no particular order:
The Next Time I Fall - Amy Grant & Peter Cetera The Way It Is - Bruce Hornsby & The Range Walk Like An Egyptian - The Bangles (I sure hope I'm wrong on this one!) Everybody Have Fun Tonight - Wang Chung Hip To Be Square - Huey Lewis & The News Harlem Shuffle - The Rolling Stones My Hometown - Bruce Springsteen The Edge Of Heaven - Wham!

Those are all very good guesses, especially the songs that were #1 in December of 1986.

Interesting to hear Casey mention all the German acts up to that point, who had hit the top 40. The list would be increased by one just a few weeks later when Nena made the top 40, followed by the Scorpions a few months later.

The only German born Top 40 act this year was Alice Merton. The only #1 German acts I can think of since Casey did the list are Real McCoy and Lou Bega, although half of Milli Vanilli is German.

Interesting to hear Casey mention all the German acts up to that point, who had hit the top 40. The list would be increased by one just a few weeks later when Nena made the top 40, followed by the Scorpions a few months later. In 1985 Harold Faltermeyer from Munich reached #3 with "Axel F.". Harold was born in Munich in 1952 and named Harold o after an American soldier who helped his father in the war following a traffic accident. Harold founded his first band at the age of 13, left grammar school at 16 and trained as a sound engineer with "Deutsche Grammophon". He also studied at the Musikhochschule in Munich. At 26, Giorgio Moroder brought him to Hollywood. The soundtrack to "Beverly Hills Cop" and the anthem for "Top Gun" earned him two Grammys. Faltermeyer lives in his Bavarian homeland and has started to paint. A few years ago he showed his "Neonhirschen" paintings in the Walentowski Gallery in Salzburg. Here´s Casey´s complete list: Crazy Otto - Glad rag doll, Smiles Horst Jankowski - A walk in the black forest Kraftwerk - Autobahn James Last - The seduction Helmut Zacharias & Orchestra - When the white lilacs bloom again Peter Schilling - Major Tom And the 2 #1´s are: Bert Kaempfert - Wonderland by night Silver Convention - Fly Robin Fly (also a "bird at #1) And just to add: Kraftwerk:The album "Autobahn" is considered by many to be the first album of Elektropop. Almost even more interesting is the single "Das Model", which reached #1 in the UK in 1978. Silver Convention:The trio "Silver Convention" included the Austrian Gertrude Wirschinger (better known as "Penny McLean"). They also had the two singles "Get up and boogie" and "Telegram". "Telegram" reached #8 at the Eurovision Song Contest in London back in 1977. Nena:The Rolling Stones and their boss Mick Jagger played a big role in Nena´s life: Stones T-shirts in all variations filled most of her wardrobe and were often the first choice for Nena´s stage wardrobe. In her apartment she had a cosy corner with a kissing mouth sofa and neon tongue. In the Nena tour bus often, much to the chagrin of her band, whose members she lovingly called "sweeties", the same Stones video ran several times in a row. Carlo Karges, songwriter of the "99 Luftballons", died in 2002 ( at40fg.proboards.com/post/126782). And the probably "quietest" band member was Jürgen Dehmel. Jürgen studied space technology, which is why he was also called "E.T." due to his constant absence of mind. But this all-round talent not only wrote fairy tales, but also knitted sweaters, designed stage clothes and composed musicals.

Was surprised that he did not at least mention Heatwave, as he did Jackson Browne. They were formed in then-West Germany, and I believe at least one of their members was German. Also Boney M, who were a creation of German producer Frank Farian, later of Milli Vannili fame/infamy.

Was 1983 the only year in which AT40 only did one week of year-end 'specials'? Seems so odd that a show airing over Christmas weekend (this week's 12/24/83 show) was a regular countdown rather than a Christmas special or the first half of the top hits of the year countdown.
