It appears that iheart stations will opt for the 1980 show this weekend. It is surprising in that thru the first 4 months those stations have only carried the "A" show. Mix 107.7, Mix 98.9, Mix 93.1, & My 100.1 all show on their websites that the 1980 program is what will be broadcast. Of course, WMLX might opt for 1987 for the 6th straight week. well mix 107.7 is airing the 1988 show at the moment

I'd say that mix 989 will air 1988 on Sunday. Mix 1077 and 989 are very similar to each other.

I wonder if this is a case of these stations wanting to air the B show but no one taking initiative to load it

I was surprised at this: www.mix1077.com/onair/casey-kasem-41696/weekend-of-may-23-1980-13543838/KOOL & KLDZ are both in 2nd hour of 1980 show.

Magic 98 is airing 4/7/88 this Sunday. You meant to say May 7, 1988

I emailed the PD @wgrq and he said, "Unless content dictates, we always air the "A" show".
I suspect most PD's feel the same and/or just allow the automation to d/l the "A" rather than force "B" into their systems.

OK, any station going with the "B" show (1980) on Sunday? Thanks for the answer.

WGHN listeners: They'll be airing the Kentucky Derby for some reason, so the show will likely start later.

History in the making at the time of the 88 show. As Casey points out, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon finally fell off the album chart the week before.

WEZG plays the "A" show Friday at 2pm and plays the "B" show when available Sunday at 9pm. The station has been doing this with with the 70s show, too(Sat 9am & Sun 6pm). I believe the station played 4 different shows one weekend about a month ago.

Fun fact: This is the second year in a row where a May 1988 countdown is followed by a May 1982 countdown (just realized this when Always On My Mind came up in this week's countdown).

Production quirk this week...OK, you know how the shows were originally six segments per hour back in the day, and usually when aired by Premiere they'll match those together in pairs to get three per hour? Well, pay close attention to Hour 3 - one such segment is super-sized, with three "original" segments joined together instead of two. The middle segment goes: 17 + 16/15/14 + 13. This has happened at least one other time that I can think of - but in that case it was a little more understandable. 10/12/85 saw the middle segment of Hour 2 go like this: 26/25/24 + 23. Made sense to do that there since they were dealing with back to back one-song segments...what's their excuse this time?
