When this show aired in 2008, these were the optional extras:
Hour #1: "We'll Be Together" - Sting Hour #2: "Touch Of Grey" - Grateful Dead Hour #3: "Valerie" - Steve Winwood Hour #4: "Animal" - Def Leppard
I think a 2008 show gets re-edited so that means a new or somewhat new slate of extras. I'll predict:
* "We'll Be Together" by Sting * "Shake Your Love" by Debbie Gibson * "Valerie" by Steve Winwood * "Dude Looks Like A Lady" by Aerosmith

Here are my predictions for next weekend's 1987 optional extras:
"Let's Work" by Mick Jagger "Don't You Want Me" by Jody Watley "Faith" by George Michael "Catch Me (I'm Falling)" by Pretty Poison
Maybe the 10/31/1987 show will air next year or something. But I agree, we are due for a 1987 show after not hearing one for nearly 3 months.

The 2008 show would have been emceed by Ed McMann, so it will certainly be a new set of extras (though one or two songs might be the same as last time?). Of course, there is no way "Touch of Grey" would be played this time... Excited for this show--I do really like 1987 from this time of year through December.

Extra predictions:
* "Shake Your Love" -- Debbie Gibson. * "Valerie" -- Steve Winwood. * "Skeletons" -- Stevie Wonder. * "Love Will Find a Way" -- Yes.
And yes, the country chart had as its No. 1 this week ... (drumroll please):
* "Fishin' in the Dark" -- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Which did get a little bit of classic hits airplay, even though it never charted pop.

^It was another Linda Ronstadt song, but from an album released well after the Casey era. WKIX still hasn't posted the Premiere cue-sheet. dL From the 1989 album "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind", which spun off the AT40/CT40 hits "Don't Know Much" and "All My Life". The song "Trouble Again" wasn't a single, but does sound quite similar to "Get Closer", power chording and all. I actually like "Trouble" better; Linda sings it nicely, while on "Get Closer" she seemed to be trying too hard to sound rock-oriented and ended up almost yelling instead of singing. Still, I don't know how this particular mistake was made, since they weren't from the same album or anything. And while we're talking 80s optional extras, Premiere really cut down both "Shadows of the Night" and "Maneater".

Not surprising that those two extras were cut--the show minus the commercials clocked in at over 3h 21m, which is a little on the long side. Perhaps that means fewer countdown songs were cut? No complaints here if that's the case. As for the Linda Rondstadt blunder, agreed--that was a major whiff--the song they played wasn't even close. Do those two songs both show up on the same greatest hits album by chance? Just bewildering how that happened...

I'm really looking forward to this show too. 1987 was a great year in music. Michael Jackson released Bad, George Michael released Faith, U2 became arguably the biggest band in the world when they released The Joshua Tree..Swing Out Sister, Billy Idol, Madonna, Tiffany..I'm looking forward to the Top 20 songs...1987, especially late 87 was a great year in music. I can't believe the Grateful Dead only had one Top 10 hit.

When the show was aired back in 2011, it had a similar problem with the last optional extra. While Larry introduced the song as "SOS", Premiere played "The Name Of The Game". Apparently the blunder was only on the international version of the show, though. US stations (at least those I listened to) correctly played "SOS".

I remember how excited Casey seemed to be talking about the Dead finally reaching the countdown! Maybe he was a closet "Deadhead"? 1987 was a mixed bag for me, didn't really like U2 or George Michael. Being 16, of course I had the biggest crush on both Tiffany and Debbie Gibson, along with the first girl poster ever on my wall, Samantha Fox in her mid-driff cutoff on the cover of "Touch Me".

Samantha Fox, I almost forgot about her. She was a little too porn star for me back then. I was 7 and loved George Michael. I had the biggest crush on him and wore my cassette of Faith out. Same thing with Michael Jackson. I can't believe I once found him sexy but I did. I'm sure my parents were thrilled that I knew all the words to I Want Your Sex. Oh if only YouTube existed in 1987.
