Actually it's only been two months; June 21-22 was the last 1985 show, though March was the last 1985 AT40 before it. I think in the next three weeks we'll get 8/31, 9/7 or 9/14/85, which were last aired in 2008, 2011, and 2010 respectively.
Yes, you are correct. It just feels like five months since 85 is my favorite year.

the 2 debuters were, Lulu's 'I could never miss you', and, Sheena Easton's theme from, 'For your eyes only. There ya go, slf. Correct! Although the two singers have some things in common, they stand out from each other in that, Sheena Easton was a relative newcomer, whereas Lulu was making a career comeback after hitting it big in the late '60's with the charttopper "To Sir With Love".

Does anyone know what stations played the Optional Extras? KOKZ (Waterloo, Iowa) has been very consistent with them. Very rarely do they miss one. dL

Guys, am I wrong that I LIKE to hear the OE's, at the end of every hour? Not at all. Personally I'm not as enthused about them as I used to be since they've lately started choosing too many obscure classic rock songs as extras. I really like it when they pick a pop or soul song that's totally out of left field, like the one '85 show where "Through The Fire" by Chaka Khan (which peaked at #60 at the time but still gets airplay on Urban AC stations, the few Smooth Jazz stations left, and a few soft ACs too) was played as an extra. I actually was disappointed with the last two 1984 shows we had this year in terms of them not considering "Hold Me" by Whitney Houston & Teddy Pendergrass as an extra choice. Granted it peaked only at #46 pop (though it did hit the top ten AC and soul), but it WAS Whitney's first chart single - and apparently the reason why she was ineligible for 1985's Best New Artist Grammy. I'm more upset when stations don't let the closing theme play out (which it seems no station does anymore) than when extras don't get played.

That Lulu song was actually two years old at that point. She had the short-lived U.S. subsidiary of the Japanese record label Alfa Records to thank for her brief chart comeback. The follow-up "If I Were You" came close to the Top 40 but missed.

Does anyone know what stations played the Optional Extras? WFGR in Grand Rapids played all but one (hour #4), at least on Sunday night. The Sunday morning airing might have been different.

With Norway on our minds. does anyone here know if a-ha chose their name because they wanted it to be another Scandanavian "A" palindrome?

And in the midst of the Casey burial mess, it's worth noting that a few weeks ago Norway and AT40 intersected in a more positive way; Nico & Vinz' "Am I Wrong" became the first #1 from a Norwegian act since "Take On Me" (Ryan pointed this out.)

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 8/31/85 2nd Guess: 8/29/87
If they don't do 1985 next weekend, we may be looking at a repeat of the snuggles show in a couple weeks...

This is because Premiere no longer packages the show with the theme played out in full. It fades out a few seconds after the credits. They havent offered it with the 70s in some time but did with the 80s until earlier this year.

In a few moments, we will see how Premiere handles the #40 song, one they commonly edit. At 6:30 in running time, "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" may be clocking in as the longest #40 song in AT40 history. And that may be the reason it was not 'on' the Jim Steinman Lp but instead packaged with it.
