Extending this to the movies, on 9/13/75 Casey noted that "Jaws" was the fourth highest grossing film in history at the time, and that the three ahead of it ("The Godfather", "The Sound of Music", and "Gone With the Wind") all won Best Picture Oscars. He implied that a similar Oscar sweep could be in the making for "Jaws"; instead "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" swept the 1975 awards, including Best Picture.

Also on the 9-13-75 show, Casey said that, 'Run, Joey, run', was movin' like a #1 record. It'd peak 5 notches higher, at #4. Then, he said that Janis Ian's 'At 17', was at #3, and movin' up. It'd peak right there.

On 9/15/73, Casey said of BW Stevenson's "My Maria": "Ahhh, here's a record definitely headed for the top 10, maybe the top 5, maybe #1". He only got the first part of that right, as it peaked at #9. (However, it's worth noting that Brooks & Dunn's 1996 remake went to #1 country.)

Don Bowman got involved on the show he guest hosted for Casey in 1973. He referred to Clint Holmes' "Playground in My Mind," at #2 that week as moving up, implying it would hit #1. It didn't.

Reverse jinx; On last week's 1978 show, Casey said Herb Albert fell just two short of Duane Eddy for most instrumental top 40s. Herb would Rise back to the top of the chart after a long absence the very next year & Rotation and Route 101 would push him in front.

Casey was at it again this week in 1987 stating Lenny Williams/Kenny G's tune hadn't hit #1 yet, "but you never know." Wait For Love topped out at #15.

More from same show; Casey asked if Causing A Commotion would keep Madonna in front as act with most 80s #1s. It would come up one spot short.

Also, he said that Madonna's Causing a Commotion could be her seventh #1 song keeping her in the lead of having the most #1's in the 80s; it only got to #2.

I may be in the minority of one here, but I wish this thread -- mostly consisting of Casey's errors in predicting chart progress of particular songs -- would be retired out of respect for his reportedly critical health condition, and of his many contributions to the medium of popular music. Just lending a human touch.

Just lending a human touch. I couldn't disagree more. I think just posting on this board shows the love we all have for Casey and how big a part AT40 was (is) in our lives.

Ok; just my opinion, I respect yours yet personally disagree. Though I see how the posts may be construed as positive comments toward Casey's legacy. All good.

Casey did it again with the stairstep climb of 'Cold as ice'. He said that in 6 weeks it could be #1. It peaked at #6.

If I remember correctly, Casey, when talking about "Something About The Way You Look Tonight" at some point said, Elton John was, "unstoppable". That would be Elton's last Top 40 hit.

Elt would reach the top 40 once more w/Written In The Stars. While he did reach it with "Stars" on Billboard, I'm pretty sure he didn't do it on Casey's (or American) Top 40, which is what I meant.

Casey did it again with the stairstep climb of 'Cold as ice'. He said that in 6 weeks it could be #1. It peaked at #6. On same show Casey said KC & SB "were trying to make it 5 #1 songs" but Keep It Coming would go no higher than were it was at the time one slot short. He also said "torch has been passed" from #3 most successful act (behind Elvis & Beatles) in the rock era Pat Boone to his daughter. But after this smash, Debby would never reach the top 40 again.
