I'm gonna guess the missing artist is John Denver. You're right blackbowl; no need for further clue. Why John Denver?

"The Most Beautiful Girl" contains the line, Tell her I'm sorry That’s right. Every single song on the left, has somewhere in its lyrics, the title of the number one song by the act on the right. 1.In ”I’ll Be There” Build my world of “dreams” around; “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac 2.In ”It’s Too Late” There'll be “good times” again for me and you; “Good Times” by Chic 3.In ”The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” To the dark and the endless skies, “my love”; “My Love” by Paul McCartney & Wings 4.In ”Ben” “You've got a friend” in me; “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor 5. In “Brother Louie” Danger, danger when you taste “brown sugar”; “Brown Sugar” by The Rolling Stones 6. In “We’re an American Band” Feelin' good, feelin' right, it's “Saturday night”; “Saturday Night” by Bay City Rollers 7.”The Most Beautiful Girl” AND ______________ 8. In “Seasons in the Sun” When you see them I'll be there; “I’ll Be There” by Jackson 5. (“Seasons in the Sun” also has ABC or more correctly "ABCs" in its lyrics, but Jackson 5’s “ABC” was #1 pre-AT40) 9. In “The Streak” Come streakin' around the “grease” rack there; “Grease” by Frankie Valli I could have thrown in the clue that in answering not to worry about acts with instrumental #1s (Like Love Unlimited Orchestra or Rhythm Heritage). The further clues I was originally gonna give that would have given the answer away were 10. “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe” AND Styx; or maybe 11. “Angie Baby” AND The Rolling Stones Fairly obvious since both had not only the lyrics but also the song title linking them to the next act on the right.

How about "Say You Love Me" (I'm falling, falling, falling at your feet) and LeBlanc and Carr ("Falling")?

FOr #6 above, I would have chosen Marvin Gaye. Always got a kick out of the line in "We're an American Band"...Come on dudes, LET'S GET IT ON.... since that is the song Grand Funk knocked out of the #1 position!
That leads to the question. Which #1 song has more titles of other #1 songs in its lyrics?

How about "Say You Love Me" (I'm falling, falling, falling at your feet) and LeBlanc and Carr ("Falling")? Neither Fleetwood Mac’s nor LeBlanc & Carr song of course was #1. Besides, there are many more number one titles that cross across the decades. I first thought of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, in which Diana Ross starts with If you need me, “call me”; “Call Me” being a Blondie #1. But I removed this one at the last minute, because I realized Blondie’s song was #1 in the spring of 1980 and didn’t conform with the restriction I myself put on the trivia (that the #1 titles are to be from 1970s).

Thanks rayshae3. Now I've got a fairly easy one: 1. The Beatles 2. The Jackson 5 3. The Osmonds 4. ______________ 5. M.C. Hammer Who is the missing top 40 artist and what do they uniquely have in common? New Kids On The Block. All five became cartoons.

Which #1 song does not belong in this group, and why? "Indian Reservation" by the Raiders "Brandy" by Looking Glass "Love Train" by the O' Jays "Delta Dawn" by Helen Reddy "Love's Theme" by the Love Unlimited Orchestra "I'm Sorry" by John Denver "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees Not too difficult to those familiar with #1 songs from the 1970's. Good luck!

Hammer Who is the missing top 40 artist and what do they uniquely have in common? New Kids On The Block. All five became cartoons. Well, I have to say you gave a correct answer & that is what they indeed all have in common. However, that was not the missing artist I had in mind. So that error is on me.

The intended artist I was looking for was indeed Rick Springfield. All of the artists were real life acts that had a cartoon series. He already charted under his own name before he was animated for Mission: Magic.
While there was a cartoon series for the group, The Partridge Family was a TV series that became a recording artist. (Much like the Monkees.)
The Bay City Rollers did have a TV variety series, but AFAIK it was not a cartoon.
