With Premiere removing the incorrect date given at the end of the June 19, 1976 program, I'm reminded of an original broadcast from Chicago station WDHF when it removed the show date from the June 26, 1976 program. Here's why. The weekend that show was to air, it wasn't played. An explanation was given that they were having "technical difficulties." However, the 6-26-76 program -- minus the program-ending chart date -- actually was broadcasted on WDHF the following weekend when the Bicentennial Special should've been heard. WDHF's action also resulted in the removal of all of Casey's promos for the upcoming special. They really went out of their way to diffuse listener complaints. I wonder how many other stations exercised their option to not play the July 4, 1976 special. Pete--any reason why Premiere decided to edit out the date for this week's '76 show, when they have allowed incorrect dates to be aired on past programs? (the 10/1/77 show, aired last fall, comes to mind--Casey said 9/24/77 for the date at the end of that show and Premiere left that one in the show)

Although any June 1979 show Premiere may choose to run would be good, maybe June 30 would be a better choice if they want to honor Donna Summer--Casey announces her success in breaking two chart records on that show.

It's a shame that Premiere has not played 1973 in a while. That's one of my favorite years by far!!! Hopefully, they will play more in the second half, regardless if they are repeats or not.

wahoo, johnnywest's explanation is about as good as I could offer. To be honest, I don't believe anyone gives a rat's patooey (did I spell that right???), but it's likely just a matter of accuracy and continuity.

I would think with all of Premiere's editing prowess....they edit 4 minute songs down to a minute and a half at the drop of a hat, they edited out pieces of Casey intro and outros that included mistakes into seamless sound-like original takes...that they could edit out the wrong date and edit in the correct date. Casey said "June 19" on the show for 6/19/82 in fact.

You have the voice of the "Joe Friendly" Casey in 1976 as opposed to the voice of the "sort of plastic-y" Casey of 1982. Regardless, I believe 99.99999999% of the audience wouldn't even notice.

Although I don't endorse ANY editing for any reason, I'm assuming there must be soundbites in the "Joe Friendly" era where Casey says the word "June" and separately says "19" where those two could be edited together to possibly achieve the best result.

IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN - Neil Diamond HEAVEN MUST BE MISSING AN ANGEL - Tavares THE THRILL IS GONE - B.B. King

Folks, Given the wrong date given for this weekend's 70's show, do I keep it as May 19 1976 and not June 19 1976 or other way around? Just not quite sure where it should go in my database

Here's a case where Billboard did NOT manipulate the chart for the benefit of AT40. Maxine Nightingale originally debuted on AT40 at 25 with "Right Back Where We Started From". Well last week was their chance to do a little manipulation and have the song title reflect the chart position as happened a year and a half earlier with "Eighteen With a Bullet". But alas it dropped to 27 and missed being right back where it started from by 2 notches....lol
The story about "I'm Easy" shows once again just how much the stars have to align sometimes for a song to become a hit. Needless to say, there must be literally thousands of songs that did not make it but should or could have.
We have discussed this here previously but does anyone who was listening to the radio back in 1974 remember 'airplay increasing rapidly' as Casey said about Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Freewheelin" in explaining why their record rebounded from 34 to 8? I don 't.
This is a very historic show when you consider that using the Giants of Rock & Roll special as one barometer, this is the only show in AT40 history in which the top 3 groups of rock and roll are in the top 40....Beach Boys, Stones and Beatles.

Something to listen for this weekend... You'll find Casey's closing in the 6-19-76 show slightly awkward. Originally, he gave the wrong chart date and Premiere, in turn, edited out that portion of the program. They also edited out the end of the second hour comments by Casey and closing theme. I listened to 2 different stations to confirm. He gives the outro to the Doobie Brothers and it went immediately to a commercial. Surely there wasn't a mistake of some kind there that they edited out?

Must've been a time issue, as if they ran short at the end of the hour.
