Extras:
I still think we’ll hear the Killer (aka Jerry Lee Lewis) and “Chantilly Lace” as a curveball extra. It is 60 years after the death of the Big Bopper and thus a tie-in to “American Pie.”
Other guesses:
* “Slippin’ Into Darkness” — War. * “Tiny Dancer” — Elton John. (A second song that just missed the top 40 ... albeit at least to classic hits radio a better-known song.)

From the 03.02.74 show - I probably will never heard Eres Tu - without thinking of Chris Farley and David Spade singing it while driving down the road - in the movie Tommy Boy.

I'll go with:
"Penny Lane" "Doctor My Eyes" "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

Although 3/11/78 was a great countdown,it was heavily edited. After March 1978 they mostly stopped putting in extras; maybe by this point they had successfully petitioned ABC Radio or whoever for a fourth hour? In May it was announced in Billboard that AT40 would be expanding to four hours, though of course such broadcasts didn't actually start until October. I guess they decided to largely stop including extras anticipating the show's upcoming expansion when they and their attendant stories would be needed to fill time. I think it has a lot more to do with the fact there just wasn't time anymore. Longer songs are what pushed the show to 4 hours.

I wonder if this, in part, also pushed “American Country Countdown” to four hours in early 1986 ... longer songs? Brian

So what do you think are the chances of them playing the yet-to-be-aired 3/24/1979 show on the weekend of March 23?
I myself think that would be somewhat unlikely, given that they played the 2/17 show not too long ago. The April 14 show would be a better bet. Either way, I seriously doubt that we'd get both shows, unless they've decided to play as many of the unplayed songs as possible (there would still be a few shows left - like the two adjacent shows from August, 1975 and late 1979. Plus, shows from different years that are close together as far as time of year is concerned (April 1977/1979, November 1976/1978, and a few others). I just hope that they play as many shows this year as is feasible (after all, they finished off all of the 80s shows by the end of 2018).

Although 3/11/78 was a great countdown,it was heavily edited. Countdown on WTOJ will be all full length songs. no edits. Show will run long. Ken, I was out of town and missed your handiwork. If the show airs again some holiday, let us know! Thanks Art

The 1978 show made me think of how common Syndrums (that electronic "boing" sound) were in the era. I noticed them on two or three songs.

For 3/18/72, the Premiere optional extras are:
Hour #1: "The Family Of Man" - Three Dog Night (not yet charting) Hour #2: "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" - Roberta Flack (#42) Hour #3: "Tiny Dancer" - Elton John (#53)
The Beatles' "Penny Lane" stays in its original place.
For 3/15/75:
Hour #1: "How Long" - Ace (#77) Hour #2: "Amie" - Pure Prarie League (#76) Hour #3: "No No Song" - Ringo Starr (#14)
"No No Song" was of course part of a double sided hit; Casey played "Snookeroo" that week.

"The Family Of Man" was in the countdown when Casey returned in April, after Dick Clark hosted the 3/25/72 show.
The optional extras for 3/15/75 were the same as the 2011 airing. Ringo Starr's "No No Song" returns after it had been replaced in 2016 by Earth, Wind & Fire's "Shining Star". Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White passed away in early 2016.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 3/20/71 2nd Guess - 3/24/79
1971 is due and this show has been played one time--a month into the series back in 2007! I'm guessing the odds of 1979 will go way up for the second week in April, but this is another show that has yet to be played.

I'm inclined to think that we'll hear 3/20/71 next weekend-That would once again feature the technical wizardry of Ken Martin.

If 3/20/71 is played next weekend,it would be paired with another show.
