Question -- should errors like this be deleted from programs? In my opinion, no. I like to hear the shows as close as possible to the original. I also like hearing the original mono mixes and single versions of the songs that don't get played anymore. I know they have to make the 1970 - 1972 shows stereo or a lot of station won't play them. The original AT40 song edits are also of interest to me, but the Premiere edits are annoying. Totally agree (also with those who commented prior). I don't mind the mono-to-stereo conversion, but I'd also prefer to leave Casey's talk bits alone, errors and all. And I'd also leave the 3-hour 1978 shows alone too. If anything, insert the single versions of songs to keep them shorter, like what was done with the 1984 year-end countdown. Otherwise, leave as is.

I’m still going to go with the song that just barely missed the top 40, and went on to be the No. 1 country song of 1978:
* “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” — Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.
I’ll keep trying until it gets picked. Honestly though — unless there’s a new voiceover jockey that at some point replaces Larry Morgan or Premier Networks decides to end distribution of the shows — this may be Waylon and Wilie’s last chance to have that song played as an OE, however remote it may be.
Again, let’s not take this guessing game so seriously, as some on here are apt to do. It’s just a game, let’s leave it a fun thing to do.
Other two picks are well known to classic hits lists:
* “Ebony Eyes” — Bob Welch. * “Dust In the Wind” — Kansas.

Interesting show coming up, I'm looking forward to it. The most-weeks-at-#1 song of #78 enters the 40, while the most-weeks-at-#1 song of '77 falls out, to the delight of many. Interesting that there is an extra ('This Masquerade'), as this was the period when the three-hour format was showing it's limits due to average song length. That didn't seem to stop them, as they featured extras on a fairly regular basis, even in 1977-78. They did this by mercilessly editing countdown songs. lasvegaskid is spot on about the 1978 shows and all the editing. I would be all for the show being expanded to four hours with the unedited versions (possibly the album versions of some songs, to help fill up the excess time). At the same time, however, I can see why this would be a hassle, so I'm not holding my breath. At least there's YouTube...

Maybe by then AT40 had been approved for expansion to four hours (it was announced in Billboard in May) and they decided to save the extras and related stories for when they would be needed to fill the time. The guy who wrote to Casey that year about Desiree and dedicating Neil Diamond's same-named song did so at a fortitious time, as they were by then looking for ways to fill out an extra hour and so the Long Distance Dedication became a regular feature.

"This Masquerade" [ EDIT: This is a Casey extra, so I doubt it'll get dropped...] "If I Can't Have You" ("On her way to one week at #1...") "Ebony Eyes" dL Two out of three ain't bad. Premiere optional extras for 2/11/78: "Sharing The Night Together" Dr. Hook "If I Can't Have You" Yvonne Elliman "This Masquerade" George Benson "Sharing The Night Together", a tribute to Ray Sawyer, was released in the fall of 1978. It peaked at #6 in January 1979.
