Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess - 1/4/75 2nd Guess - 1/16/71 Funny thing, the longest drought currently would reside with January 1972, since the last show chronologically prior to that month that's been played was 10/2/71. However, the 1972 Top 80 means we likely won't be hearing a weekly '72 countdown for another month or two. 1974 was last played in early November, and Premiere hasn't played 1/4/75 in a long time... In October 2010, Premiere played 10/7/72 and 10/9/71 back to back--followed by nothing from either year until February 2011, so there's precedent for that. However, last year 12/18/71 (with many hits that appeared in the 1972 year end show) and 1/29/72 were played just about a month apart. Assuming that nothing aired in 2017 or 2018 as an A or standalone will be repeated as such in 2019, then 1/29 and 2/12/72 are the only two Jan-Feb 1972 shows that are inelegible for replay.

Kind of ironic and appropriate - with the passing of Ray Sawyer that the Top 80 of 1972 Part 1 featured Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show at #67 with Sylvia's Mother.

Also just read the sad news about the passing of the Captain - Daryl Dragon.

Interesting in the 1972 countdown hearing Casey say that Art Garfunkel had moved on from music following the S&G split. Although he took his time he would have a solo hit in the fall of '73.

Great mono to stereo conversion by Ken Martin on '72 countdown. Agree--listening to 12/2/72 at the moment, and had those same thoughts. I know some of the traditionalists like hearing those early shows in mono, but I'm amazed at how good they sound with the conversion to stereo. Also very curious to how it actually works. It sounds like Ken has a program/app he runs on those shows that magically does the conversion. But how does that app figure out what to place on the left channel and what to place on the right? Back in the day, the sound engineer would more or less work that out on the mixing board, but I assume there was some thought or strategy that went into how to distribute the two sides. How does Ken's program figure that out by itself?

Because of the way the calendar dates fall, I gotta disagree with both of these predictions and go with something around 1/11/?? or 1/12/??

Add to it that they always stray from the policy of aligning the dates between the current weekends and the original show dates during January. Hence my logic in going with 1/4/75.

I think he finds the stereo mixes of the songs and edits them in, but I seem to remember he posted here about the process he used to create a stereo version of the theme music.

Ok, didn't realize that was the case.
