Its interesting that in the back sell of "Don't Stop" he mentioned that Fleetwood Mac were the hottest concert act today. Here it is nearly 40 years later and they are STILL on tour, same configuration and still selling out shows around the world. How many other acts from the chart can make that claim?? I had just seen 'The Mac' live in concert 38 years ago (end of August 1977, to be exact). Huge football stadium show, with opening acts Kenny Loggins and the Marshall Tucker Band. Good show.

Optional extra predictions for 10/25/75 show: * "That's The Way (I Like It)" by KC & The Sunshine Band * "Let's Do It Again" by The Staple Singers * "My Little Town" by Simon & Garfunkel The last time I guessed all three extras correctly was two years ago with the 10/18/75 countdown. That's sad that I have gone 104 weeks without picking all three songs correctly .

Extra predictions ... with some curveballs thrown in:
* "Never Been Any Reason" - Head East. This never made the top 40, but despite it peaking at a very low No. 95 during a brief three-week run on the charts, it's gotten a fair amount of airplay on classic hits/oldies and classic rock stations. (And amazingly enough, someone just played it on the jukebox at the bowling alley tonight.) * "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" - Waylon Jennings. Yes, this future No. 1 country hit (it was a solid top 10 hit this week in '75) did make the pop charts, topping out at No. 60 during a nine-week chart run. * "Let's Do It Again" - The Staple Singers.

That Head East song was played a lot while I was in college during the late 70s/early 80s in St. Louis. Big regional hit in the midwest.

On a 70's note - sorry to have read that Cory Wells, lead singer of the #1 song from the first AT40 episode (Three Dog Night's "Mama Told Me Not To Come") has passed away.

Brian Brian, great suggestion on for Head East. I never thought much about it back in the late 70's and 80's but apparently Head East was much more popular in the midwest than anywhere else. Just looked up Head East on wikipedia, and they were founded in Illinois, with original members from the University of Illinois and Eastern Illinois. Seems like very summer in the late 70's the band was on a tour in the midwest and you would hear the commercial every night on KOMA in Oklahoma City giving their upcoming dates. "Never Been Any Reason" has always been a staple on AOR and some oldies stations here in the midwest, and I assume it still is.

The last time I guessed all three extras correctly was two years ago with the 10/18/75 countdown. That's sad that I have gone 104 weeks without picking all three songs correctly . And unfortunately, this will mark 105. jmack19 and freakyflybry came away with two out of three this week, nailing the two #1s. The third, however, is a curveball that no one would've seen coming unless you knew your history...this week, "Heat Wave" by Linda Ronstadt is at #12. But, Casey doesn't play "Heat Wave". He plays its B-side, "Love is a Rose". Instead, "Heat Wave" will be a Premiere extra this week. This week's extras are: "Love Machine (Part 1)" - The Miracles "That's The Way (I Like It)" - KC & The Sunshine Band "Heat Wave" - Linda Ronstadt

Fair enough, I just went and listened to the two side by side. Yes, the original show does drop "bottle" a bit, but more what I was referring to was there is practically no space between Casey's "bottle" and their "Got no time to.....". So when I heard it this morning, it sounded more jarring than it is. Almost as if Casey committed the radio sin of speaking over the lyric. But then again, at that point in the history of the countdown, Casey did sometimes squeeze his words in. One of my favorite examples is in the debut show and his intro to "Silver Bird". He gets everything out just before he sounds like hes going to run out of breath. I should have gone and found another instance of Casey saying "bottle" and edited that into the mix. C'est La Vie. If Ken is still editing the shows, I hope he does for this week's show what he frequently did in his #1s specials. In those he edited in clips of songs where there was no clip in the original segment. I was hoping to hear a clip of the answer to the question about adapted classical songs. Interesting that the other question answered was Casey confirming that Chicago was the group with the most top 10 hits without hitting #1. It was exactly a year later that they hit #1 with "If You Leave Me Now". Also interesting that Casey mentioned 2 ties in this show. One tie was still not broken and would not be broken until 1979 some 12 years after it was created. That would be the tie for most instrumental top 40 hits at 13. And the other tie for most top 10 hits in the 70s lasted about 12 WEEKS until Elton broke it this week.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 10/28/72 2nd Guess - 10/28/78
Either show would probably accompanied with a 'B' show. 1972 would seem to be the more logical choice, though 1973 and '74 are both overdue. Guessing those two years get played later in November...
