Here's some interesting AT40 trivia for y'all. All 4 major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, & FOX) all had voiceover announcers at their respective networks who had a connection to AT40. Examples:
1. Joe Cipriano (voiceover announcer at FOX) subbed for Shadoe Stevens on an episode of AT40.
2. Mark Elliott (voiceover announcer at CBS) was a long time AT40 sub host for Casey Kasem.
3. Ernie Anderson (former voiceover announcer at ABC) announced a promo for the Fourth of July AT40 special in 1991.
4. Townsend Coleman (voiceover announcer at NBC) was the DJ for the infamous AT40 show that aired in Cleveland in 1979 instead of the disco special.
5. Finally, Casey Kasem was a former voiceover announcer at NBC.
How cool is that?

Speaking of Joe Cipriano, here's another piece of AT40 trivia related to him...he was the only person to guest host for BOTH Shadoe Stevens and Casey Kasem on AT40. (He subbed for Casey on the revived version of the show, I believe in 1999.)

Here is a trivia question for you to have fun with. What was the only AT40 show in the 70s and 80s that had less than 40 songs played?

The Producers show in the 70's and the Book Of Records In The 80's is my guess.

Here is a trivia question for you to have fun with. What was the only AT40 show in the 70s and 80s that had less than 40 songs played? I believe I know the answer but I won't say what I think it is. However, I will say that the first initials of the first and last name of the first artist in this show are the same.

Was it the Top 40 Albums special (some albums didn't have any tracks played)?

Yes it was. Nice going. They played 12 songs in each hour...40-26 in the first hour, skipping 3 albums....25-14 in the second hour....and played songs from 12 of the top 13 albums in the third hour. So 36 songs were played and some of them were longer album tracks.
In the shows where "The Americans" was omitted, extras were played. Same with the show in which "Share the Land" was omitted in 1970. The producers special featured 3-5 songs from each producer. The book of records special was a 4 hour show so it was more than enough time to play 40 songs. BTW, the Hall & Oates-hosted show only had 41 songs played despite the 4 hours, the least of any 4 hour show.

BTW, the Hall & Oates-hosted show only had 41 songs played despite the 4 hours, the least of any 4 hour show. Maybe in the Casey Kasem era. But even then, there were other shows that only had one LDD extra played besides the top 40 songs, 2/27 and 7/16/88 - both played this year - are two of 'em. But even then, none of those do it. Unless you count his long introduction, Shadoe's first show didn't have any extras - just the week's top 40 songs. EDIT: I found no less than eleven other Shadoe shows prior to 1990 where the show's sole LDD was a countdown song, and one show that apparently didn't have any LDDs! (Don't hate me...I was curious. PM me if you're interested to know the 11.)

Daryl Hall and John Oates subbed for Casey Kasem during the second-last week of Casey's first run before Shadoe took over. Debbie Gibson, who was a teen sensation back in the day, subbed for Shadoe Stevens in late-June 1989. At age 18, I think she may have been the youngest person to do the announcing duties on AT40 during all the runs combined. Joe Cipriano would later host, along with Adrienne "Ace" Walker, The World Chart Show one week after the original run of AT40 was axed. Joe Cipriano would later on be the announcer on the game shows Deal or No Deal and 1 vs. 100.MTV VJ Martha Quinn along with another guy, I think, subbed for Shadoe on one episode during the final year of the original run - June 1994 - if I recall. Finally, Casey Kasem was a former voiceover announcer at NBC. Yes, I remember hearing his voice on Saturday Mornings on NBC to go in and out of the commercial breaks. He's the voice that introduced The Smurfs going out of commercials. NBC dropped Casey Kasem from announcing such bumpers in 1986, I think? Going a bit off-topic: I think Dick Clark (who hosted American Bandstand on ABC and The $25,000 Pyramid on CBS) did the Saturday Morning bumpers on ABC - someone please clarify?

The Christmas show from 1971 had less than 40 songs played on it, Ah not quite, there were 47 songs played in that show. You have to realize that Christmas songs are shorter than the average song even in 1971 when average songs were short by today's standards. So they had plenty of extra time to fill and thus played 7 extras.

At age 18, I think she may have been the youngest person to do the announcing duties on AT40 during all the runs combined. Interesting fact: The week she hosted was the sole week during Shadoe's time before the AT40 source chart changed where there were 3 LDDs in the show. Those were: The Moody Blues "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" Sa-Fire "Thinking of You" (off the countdown by that point) Bette Midler "Wind Beneath My Wings" (#6)
