There is one more chapter in this story. Some people on youtube have posts indicating that the Fifth Dimension did the original version of Love Hangover. Here is what you will find on wikipedia...... Diana Ross recorded Love Hangover in 1975 and it was released on the LP "Diana Ross" with a single from it, "I Thought....... The LP came out on 2/12/76 and 2 weeks alter, Motown released "I Thought....... Upon hearing the album, the Fifth Dimension(by this time Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. had left the group) did a copycat cover and released their version of Love Hangover 2 weeks after that. Word got to Motown and Motown issued Ross' version and it hit huge, burying the Fifth Dimension. Motown, certain Love Hangover was a #1 for Diana, rushed out her version. So you blame the Fifth Dimension and ABC Records for "I Though.... peaking at #47. If they had minded their own business, it would have been given a proper chart life and then LH would have been released a little later than it was (and still hit #1 of course).

Now based on all that, Premiere should play " I thought it Took a Little Time" as an extra at some point in a 1976 show maybe giving a bit of that story in the intro.

Thanks for all of that info Duke. I knew I had heard bits and pieces of that story somewhere down the line. To this day, "I Thought..." remains one of my all-time favorite non-top 40 hits that SHOULD'VE been. The label probably should have released it as the follow-up to "Love Hangover", but I don't have a problem with what they did release, "One Love In My Lifetime" which was also another long time favorite of mine....

pizzzza....I just heard Open My Eyes on youtube....it starts out like "I Can't Explain" and sure enough, that is one of the videos on the side of the screen that could be played. Good song. I also checked out the 32 second video for live in Philly seeing as how you are from there. Thanks for pointing me to that.

I can understand the "rush" to get Diana Ross' version out - but why not have 2 songs by one artist on the charts at the same time? It wouldn't be the first time!

But thank you for thinking of me....

I know him so well by Elaine Page and Barbara Dickson.
From Chess, by Benny/Bjorn/Tim Rice. The single was number 1 in the UK and the other single of the rock opera did very well in AT40, One night in Bankog, but IKHSM no.

jcaragon....ironically Diana Ross herself would do just that in 1980 when she had 3 songs in the top 40. And it was an uptempo/ballad combo with I'm Coming Out and It's My Turn moving up the chart.

I did mention a flop by her in AT40 above in the post, Chain Reaction, which was number 1 in the UK and nothing in AT40. Well , it has been a chain reaction about ABBA and Diana.

Mirror man by The Human League. That song did make the top 40, albeit not very high up (it peaked at #30 in November 1983).
