From listening to the show over the years, I have found songs that I really enjoyed and (because current radio stations don't play all the hits, but the same old same old all the time) discovered that I may not have heard otherwise... Here are a few of my favorites:
Paul Humphreys: Cool Aid Dennis Coffey: Taurus & Scorpio Sly Stone: Runnin' Away Supremes: Floy Joy Styx: Why Me Journey: Walks Like A Lady Eddie Money: Maybe I'm A Fool
I'd also like to say, I hope when they hit a few months from now in 1972, an AT40 extra is Life & Breath by Climax. It only hit #52 but after a huge hit like Precious & Few, I'm surprised it didn't do better. They had some AMAZING singles after that and NONE hit the top 40.

The ones that come to mind are:
Cliff Richard--A Little In Love Sammy Johns--Chevy Van Madonna--Causing A Commotion Champaign--Try Again Marty Balin--Hearts (I actually first heard this one on a local retro show in the summer of '09, but it was during an XM airing of AT40 not long after that where I found out the name and the artist)
I'm sure there's more.

Temptations...Ball of Confusion Pipkins....Gimme Dat Ding Marcel Rios....Song of Joy John Phillips....Mississippi Perry Como....It's Impossible Tom Clay....What the World Needs Now/Abraham, Martin & John

Bryan Adams - One Night Love Affair Madonna - Causing a Commotion Prince - U Got the Look 'Til Tuesday - What About Love Toto - I'll Be Over You Tina Turner - Typical Male Madonna - True Blue Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean to Turn You On Tina Turner - One of the Living Barry Manilow - Read 'Em and Weep Cyndi Lauper - Change of Heart Expose - Seasons Change ...there's definitely more, but this is enough for now. Some of these, such as "U Got the Look" and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On", I've since heard elsewhere after hearing them on a show. But prior to AT40, I'd never heard these anywhere else.

These are my favourites from listening to AT40 again, songs I had either never heard before, or had (almost) forgotten:
Gone/Joey Heatherton Julie do ya love me/Bobby Sherman Straight on/Heart Blue collar man (long nights)/Styx A little more love/Olivia Newton-John Joy/Appollo
and I think I loved that Al Martino song on the chart this week too!!

Here are a couple of songs that didn't get much airplay (if any) in my home town, but because they reached American Top 40, I had a chance to hear them:
1971: I'd Love To Change The World - Ten Years After 1978: Like A Sunday In Salem (The Amos & Andy Song) - Gene Cotton

"I Want You," Marvin Gaye "Love Really Hurts without You," Billy Ocean "Movin'," Brass Construction "More, More, More," Andrea True Connection "Fool to Cry," Rolling Stones "Sara Smile," Daryl Hall and John Oates "Misty Blue," Dorothy Moore "Love Hangover," Diana Ross

AT40 really opened my ears to great music and here's just a few Don't you let my heart know that you're leaving - Gene Cotton Title is actually "Before My Heart Finds Out". Great song. I will age myself by saying I already knew all of the songs before these AT40 shows aired. Partially because I was around in the early 70's (although a child) and also because I collected music in the 70's and 80's, making a point to obtain every song that hit Billboard's Top 40. I have many used record stores to thank for that.

Yea I cant really think of any song that i've DISCOVERED listening to the shows. ONly 1 pops in my head, from '84 Yes, "Leave it". I can't say difinitively if I heard that in '84 or not.
I can say AT40 has gotten me familiar w/ songs I've all but forgotten about like: Manfred Mann's earth band, "Runner", The art of noise, "Paranomia", Martika, "More than you know" (that was from CT40 but still...)
