Regarding Premiere broadcasts of 70s shows, I don't believe we have achieved triple status with this one, however...
With this week's May 18, 1974 show, and the May 5, 1973 program, each contained a song sung by a group that identified itself in their own song lyrics:
*1974: Hollywood Swinging -- Kool & The Gang *1973: Hallelujah Day -- Jackson Five
But I'm not sure if this happened within last week's 1979 show. Anybody know?

I don't think any song on the 5/19/79 countdown included the act's whole name in it, but Sister Sledge does come pretty close in "We Are Family", not only using the word "sister" but truthfully identifying themselves as siblings.

Regarding the Sister Sledge song, one of the sisters even got her own little shout out toward the end...listen during the chorus as one of them shouts, "Sing that song, Kathy!"

Paul McCartney has scored a triple play of a different sort....3 straight weeks at #1....5/14, Ebony & Ivory on 5/15/82, 5/21, Silly Love Songs on 5/22/76, 5/28, With a Little Luck on 5/27/78. That's one on each AT40 series too.

It's been a little while since we've kept tabs on this...this week we had any one of four shots at a Triple Play with the Premiere shows giving us double doses of Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey (the last two via The Eagles). And then...the XM show comes along, and it's: The 1979 Disco Special!! Which results in an 0-for-4 for those four. Oh well, better luck next week...

For the weekend of July 9-10,I don't believe we have a triple play but we do have an interesting tie in between the '72 and '85 countdowns. When he introduced Raspberry Beret by Prince,Casey mentioned the fact that Prince shared the vocals with a lady named Wendy Melvoin, her father Mike was a session musician that played on Partridge Family records featuring David Cassidy and Mike may have played on How Can I Be Sure which I can't be sure of (LOL) but I know that Mike Melvoin played on other recordings of the P-Family along with famed drummer Hal Blaine.

Brace yourselves for this one - there's a lot to be said about this week's trio of shows! To start with, we have another "triple" triple play this week, as three artists pull it off. First up is a famed ex-Beatle who's no stranger to these parts, and he actually pulls off a quadruple play, as he does double duty on one of the three this week. You guessed it...Paul McCartney: 7-21-73: #21 "My Love", and #29 "Live and Let Die" (which debuts) 7-21-79: #23 "Getting Closer" 7-26-80: #6 "Coming Up" Since the third is "Coming Up", and all the rest are Wings proper, I guess you could give full credit to Wings on this one. The next two are not-so-usual suspects for triple plays, but both pull it off nonetheless. First up, Charlie Daniels: 7-21-73: #30 "Uneasy Rider" 7-21-79: #37 "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" 7-26-80: #13 "In America" "Uneasy Rider" is a solo recording rather than the full band like the other two. What's noteworthy is that both the 70s songs are debuts on their respective shows this week! Lastly, we have...The Spinners: 7-21-73: #32 "One of a Kind (Love Affair)" 7-21-79: 1st Archive song "Then Came You" w/Dionne Warwick 7-26-80: #4 "Cupid/I've Loved You for a Long Time" Two other artists came perilously close to also having triple plays as well. Bette Midler can be heard on both the 73 and 80 shows this week...but "Married Men" was a dropper on the 79 show. The Electric Light Orchestra can be heard on both the 79 and 80 shows this week, but their first Hot 100 single, "Roll Over Beethoven", #44 on 7-21-73...would only go two notches higher, never to make the 40. That should be everything for this week!

That's crazy!!!! I mean CRZ.....lol You covered all the normal triple play scenarios. There is one other and this one may be unprecedented. Donna Summer pulls off a triple play with Hot Stuff. It will now be played on a show for the third straight week. 2 weeks ago in the disco special and then last week and this week in the regular countdowns. And this week, it will be played twice since it is one of last week's top 3 which in this case, it actually WAS.....played on Premiere's show. Lots of fun and games this week!

I haven't checked the other shows yet, but Lionel Richie has a self-contained Triple Play in the 7-28-84 show alone. The show's two LDDs are his own "Hello" and The Commodores' "Still", and his own "Stuck on You" is #15. EDIT: Looks like that's the only one of any kind this week. Jefferson Starship nearly pulled it off, but their future #12 hit "With Your Love" was still two weeks away from the 40 on 7/31/76.

Feel free to debate this (possibly), but Peter Cetera pulls it off this week. He has the new #1 song on 8/2/86 with his own "Glory of Love", and Chicago's featured in both of the 70s shows as well.
At #27 on the 8/1/70 chart is "25 or 6 to 4", which he did sing. It's the XM show, the "Top 40 Albums" countdown from 8/5/72, where there's room for debate - at #9 is "Saturday in the Park", which he was not on lead vocals for, only backing.
Assuming this counts...when was the last time a triple play involved a #1 song from any one of the three?

IMO, you have to be the lead singer and/or get label credit on each song to be eligible for a triple play.
