Justin Bieber recently had 5 all at once. And looking at the latest Mediabase chart, Ariana Grande has 3 inside the Top 10. Not only three in the top 10, but is back to back to back. Not that Mediabase mimics AT exactly, but if that does happen surely that would be a first on AT 40.

To add to the two examples from 1993 already mentioned, I will add: 10/2/93: Janet Jackson had "That's the Way Love Goes", "If", and "Again". "Love" would drop out the following week. She'd nearly do it again on 1/29/94 when "Because of Love" debuted, but "If" went recurrent that same week. One who did do it that week, though, was Mariah Carey, with "Dreamlover", "Hero", and "Without You". Her three would last for a second week before "Dreamlover" then went recurrent. Add these two to Whitney and SWV and you get four instances of this happening in just under a year's time. All except Whitney were only on AT40 under Shadoe of course. To which I will also mention: Real McCoy had three hits on Casey's Top 40 for three weeks (6/10-6/24/95); it should be noted that at that point the R&R chart Casey used didn't have an evident recurrent rule, making it easier for songs to hang around for a very long time ("Another Night" was on CT40 for 43 weeks.) The same is true for the Mediabase chart used for Ryan Seacrest's AT40, where artists having three hits at once has become somewhat commonplace (in fact, Usher and the Black Eyed Peas have each had four at once). Had AT40 continued on in 1995, they would have done it there as well, albeit for just one week instead of three. On the 6/3/95 Mainstream chart, "Come and Get Your Love" debuted at #37, while "Another Night" was still up at #20 and "Run Away" fell out of the Top 10, down to #11. The following week, "Another Night" would go recurrent after a then-record 39 weeks. Another group who did it on that same chart that same year was actually Boyz II Men. On R&R/CT40 they narrowly missed the mark by two weeks, but on Billboard they had "On Bended Knee", "Thank You", and "Water Runs Dry" all charting together from 4/22-5/6/95.

Reviewing this thread, even though it is 12 years old, one instance of this happening was omitted. Marvin Gaye did it in November 1973 with "Let's Get it On", "Come Get to This" and 'You're a Special Part of Me", a duet with Diana Ross. Madonna was mentioned as doing this twice in 1985 on the R&R chart. She missed by one notch of doing it on AT40. Michael Jackson missed by 2 notches in 1983.

I think Sonny Bono did in the 1960s.

Yet, "Hero" was the single that followed Dream. Here's what Shadoe said, "How hot is this record? Well radio is all over this record and the label has not even released it as a single yet". So if radio was all over "Without You", did it actually chart in October of 1993? Is this the only time that a Sneak Peek was played of a to be released single when a different song ended up being released? Afterward, after saying that Nilsson had taken the original to #1 in 1972, he said that it could be #1 in '93. No on both counts! It did not hit #1 and it did not chart in 1993(since it ended being the third release, after "Hero").

Hi! On Nov.29,1980 AT40 show, Diana Ross had three song in the top 40. I'd like to know there are other instances that happen. Someone said on this board, New Kids On The Block did it in 1989 with "Didn't I Blow Your Mind","Cover Girl","Hangin' Tough". On R&R, Madonna did it twice in 1985. One case with "Crazy for You", "Angel",and "Into the Groove". Another case with"Material Girl", "Crazy for You",and "Angel". I searched other cases. Of course the Beatles had more than three in 1964. The Bee Gees had three hits from Saturday Night Fever soundtrack at the same time in 1978. Melanie did it in 1972. On R&R, Whitney Houston did it in Feb. 1993 from the Bodyguard soundtrack. On Jun. 1995, dance act Real McCoy had "Another Night", "Run Away",and "Come and Get Your Love" simultaneously in the top 40. In Summer of 1999, Ricky Martin had three songs in the top 40 with "Livin' La Vida Loca", "La Copa De Vida" and "She's All I Ever Had". Wow Madonna in 1985. Three Top 2 songs in less than three months. 01/26/85 through 04/20/85. Other than the Beatles, who has done that pre-1989? I'm thinking only Elvis, BeeGees and maybe MJ? Also, we all know about Prince not being on We Are The World, but what about her? Maybe her success came just a couple of months too late. So who would she have displaced if she had been included? Maybe Dionne Warwick?

It would hit the Hot 100 Airplay chart the first week of December, but outside of that the only activity I can find for it any earlier would indeed be that Sneek Peek week. As to what happened? The only thing I can think of that would make any sense is if "Without You" was planned to be second, only for them to change it right after that. I can't find anything to substantiate that either - but, well, I can't really find anything to substantiate any kind of anything at all as to what happened there. So a theory's all I got.

In the intro to the 10/16/93 show, he said we will be playing a Sneak Peek that may surprise you. And this is what Shadoe said when it came to playing it, "A couple weeks ago, we played Mariah Carey's "Without You" as our Sneak Peek. Even though Columbia records had not released it as a single, radio jumped on it. But now this one is the official single and it's exploding". Not really the explanation I was looking for. I suppose I could go through the R&R issues around that time frame and see if there was an ad from Columbia promoting "Without You". There are typically ads in there promoting new releases. No checked out 5 issues leading up to the one where "Hero" was the top breakout hit and there were no ads for Mariah.

This reminds me of two occasions when my local top 40 station began playing new songs that would quickly disappear from rotation, then return months later when they became big hits nationwide. The two songs were Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad and Ordinary World.

Taylor Swift currently has 3 on AT40 with "Anti-Hero," "Lavender Haze" and "Karma." She may do 4 if "Cruel Summer" debuts before "Anti-Hero" falls off.
