A new feature for me this new year is going to be offering videos to songs that were #1 on other charts but that did not make it onto AT40 or CT40. Starting off with the song that Charlie Van Dyke announced was #1 on the dance chart during the 1/9/88 show. "I'm Begging You" by Supertramp is a track from their FREE AS A BIRD album. As I heard CVD say this, I thought this could be the only Supertramp song to hit #1 on a US singles chart in Billboard. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RjWZ5w8ynA

No. 1 hits in history:
... for Jan. 25, 1975:
* Album: "Elton John's Greatest Hits" -- Elton John. He was indeed Captain Fantastic ... and everyone was walking his Yellow Brick Road. * Soul: "Fire" -- The Ohio Players. This week's No. 4 hit and on its way to becoming their first No. 1 pop hit, this was their second of five No. 1 R&B songs spanning 1973-1976. * Country: "(I'd Be) A Legend in My Time" -- Ronnie Milsap. His third in a legendary career that later in the 1970s would begin including several memorable pop crossovers and an incredible 35 No. 1 country hits by December 1989. This song was written by fellow Country Music Hall of Famer Don Gibson, and was one of several songs from the legendary songwriter that Milsap covered. (There must have been some unstated respect for Don Gibson.) * Dance: "Shame, Shame, Shame" -- Shirley and Co. A few weeks away from debuting on AT40, this was Shirley Goodman's comeback hit from a mainstream pop standpoint after a 19-year gap; she had last hit the top 20 in 1956 with "Let the Good Times Roll," as part of the duet pairing Shirley & Lee. (I'm including despite Casey not mentioning this chart in 1975.)
... and Jan. 21, 1984:
* Album: What else ... "Thriller" -- Michael Jackson. In its 25th week at No. 1, fifth consecutive dating back to Dec. 24, 1983, and on its way to an eventual 37 weeks at No. 1. No wonder its sold something like 25 million copies. * Soul: "Joanna" -- Kool and the Gang. At No. 8 on the Hot 100 this week, this was their seventh No. 1 R&B hit. * Country: "In My Eyes" -- John Conlee. His fifth, and third in a row in as many single releases for the former disc jockey and funeral director. * Dance: "Trommeltanz (Din Daa Daa)" -- George Kranz. George was a German dance music singer and percussionist; this was his best-known hit, and it would return in a remixed version to the Dance chart in 1991, peaking at No. 8. The song knocked Hall & Oates' "Say It Isn't So" from the chart's top spot.
