Now, for 5/1/76 (read before #3): #1 Country: "Don't The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time" - Mickey Gilley #1 Soul: "Livin' For The Weekend" - O'Jays (2nd week) #1 Album: Presence - Led Zeppelin Presence was the last album in the pre-Soundscan era to hit #1 without having a single make the Hot 100. The Song "Candy Store Rock" was released as a single but didn't chart. I don't know about the 1976-79 era, but no album in the '80s even came close to doing this. Only two #1 albums of the '80s failed to produce a Top 40 hit (never mind failing to produce a Top 100 hit) -- AC/DC's For Those About To Rock We Salute You, and Barbra Streisand's The Broadway Album -- and both of those had singles that peaked in the 40s in Billboard. Led Zeppelin actually came close to doing this again later in 1976, with the live double-album soundtrack to their concert film The Song Remains The Same. It hit #2 on the album chart -- stuck behind Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key Of Life -- and didn't have any singles released from it.

5/12/73: #1 Country: "Come Live With Me" - Roy Clark (his only chart-topper) Hard to believe that Roy's 'signature' song (and only pop top 40 hit, #19 in '69), "Yesterday, When I Was Young", did not reach #1 on the country singles chart. Whether one is a country fan or not, it is a great song. ...and then there's his song with the perfect country song title: "Thank God and Greyhound (You're Gone)". briguy, can you confirm?
