^^ I actually prefer the early 90s (my favorite years) yes it had its cheesy moments (Hi Poison,C+C Music Factory, one hit wonders like Timmy T..) but I prefer the years of 90,91,92 than the rest of the 90s. By 92, Nirvana basically destroyed whatever was left from the 80s, all the cheesy hair bands and after that things became a little too serious, I love Nirvana don’t get me wrong but I think we can all agree that was the end of the 80s (musically I mean, IMO there were leftovers from the 80s into the early 90s, if that makes sense). For personal reasons I don’t care most of the music from 1993-1994. The rest of the 90s were just sort of meh with a couple of highlights. I didn’t care for the late 90s and the Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Latin craze...but to each their own.
Kani, I feel I should clarify my post. I meant I don’t want to torture myself by listening to a show I’ve heard now at least 3(?) years in a row but I will because I love the music in the show. That and I have nothing to do tonight so why the hell not. Sorry for any confusion.
BTW it’s weird hearing Celine Dion being interviewed. She sounds so young, which I guess she was but still it was weird to hear her before she became a worldwide superstar and she’s Canadian too which is always great. I know she’s easy to hate, I’m not her biggest fan by any means but she seems genuinely sweet and humble so leave her alone people. Rick was a total douche as usual in that interview though, good god he’s a horrible interviewer. How Celine kept her composure is beyond me. Is it just me or is he just a insufferable d**k with women?

I think Rick dees 1986 or 1987 show marked first appearance of kevin dees as phone caller. Kevin Dees will also occasionally appear in phone call occasionally in 80s show, and maybe in 90s show, and continued in 2000s. I think the last time Kevin Dees appeared was in 2012.
u2rules, I'm sorry if I gave you hard time. And I understand if you don't have any interest in mid 90s and 2000s show, and you rather listen to late 80s and early 90s. I don't know if I remember, but didn't you comment for your likeness in mid or late 90s few years ago? If I'm mistaken, I might think some other members commented it. Though we know that rick dees 80s and 90s trend still continues in year to year repeat, but there are some few exceptions of repeats from several years ago, like last January. And unsure if 2000s repeat will follow, but we'll see. Personally if it wasn't for Rick Dees repeats, my favorite 90s would be mid-90s and sometimes late 90s.
I think 2001 isn't so bad, but I believe in my opinion there might be some best songs from my teen childhood. 2009 HAC songs are ok, but just overplayed enough.

Nice coincidence on this weeks American Top 40 and Dees CHR shows as "My My My!" by Troye Sivan debuts on both shows in the 40 spot.

Interesting that Rick mentioned that the idea of a Britney Spears/Madonna duet had fallen through at that point. Just over two years later, it would happen with "Me Against The Music".

I accidentally forgot to check KKMK last Sunday night, does anyone know if KKMK already played #1 but I think they did. Has the app fixed the last segment?

In the 2001 show, with the "Who are we?" segment, who is the girl band? I am gonna guess the group "Dream" but I am not entirely sure of this. Does anyone have the answer?

Well, Britney and Christina still have hits and prominent media presences, but have moved a long way from their 1999 personae. As for boy bands, I hated them then (too many overexposed and similar sounding acts), but lately I've been liking songs from One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer (not a boy band in the late 90s sense, but there's a similar appeal to many.) Speaking of moving away from their earlier sounds, I like Justin Timberlake's solo material a lot better than N'Sync's, especially their early stuff (they did get better later.) I know Rick doesn't use the Billboard charts but the number one song this week in 1999 was "Genie In A Bottle" by Christina Aguilera. It'll be interesting what is number one on Rick's list. But you are right, in 1999 Britney Spears was the best selling artist and now she's still sort of a joke and Miley Cyrus sort of makes her look like a nun in comparison. Christina Aguilera hasn't had a hit in years and if not for the Voice she would be over. Every 10 years or so it's a new boy band. These things happen in cycles. 15 years ago it was Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and to a lesser extent 98 Degrees and O-Town, before that it was New Kids On The Block. It seems like every generation gets their own boyband. Now it's One Direction (unfortunatley) and 5 Seconds Of Summer (which is a terrible name btw). It'll be interesting out of the teeny bopper singers/bands like Justin Bieber,Taylor Swift,One Direction,Selena Gomez et al of who is going to have longevity and be around in 10 years. I have a feeling it won't be One Direction as those bands only last a few albums and then break up and only one of them is going to Michael Jackson/Justin Timberlake, the successful solo artist after being in a band. u2rules, if you don't remember this, here's the quote in this page 119 you had in Aug 2014 of your interest in 1999. And that was before the year to year repeat started.

What a shame the D2k show is once again the HAC version of 2009. I started keeping track of the shows in this series last year and if we go on a repeat trend, 3/15/03 is the first one I have written down. So this means that the next two shows are pretty easy to predict will be: 3/3/01, and then 3/9/02. Then to the repeat cycle. We will see though..

In this weeks AT40 show from 1982, Casey mentions Rick Dees (in a question asked about DJs turned singers) right before the #1 song. Just thought that was pretty cool to hear that name in a different countdown. In Rick's case, he was a DJ turned singer then turned back to DJ..lol

I have a question regarding this weeks 1992 show... At the very beginning and very end of show he used the newer jingles that we hear today. Were these edited in or was the original show like that?
