This is the beauty of Rick: two people can hear him, even after 34 years, and have two totally different opinions! I will always love Rick: He is someone who made it on his own to be one of the biggest voices of a generation. Don't get me wrong: his shenanigans can grow tiresome and his chart methodology is questionable, at best, but to me he still entertains to this day. His "Rickileaks" segment, while not really informative, makes me laugh every time the voices come on to start the segment just because they are so awful. I'm with you about the fake lyrics lauding the songs, especially when they take out a verse to do so ("Heathens" really gets on my nerves). But, his non stop ranting about his neighbor Justin Bieber makes me laugh every time, particularly when he talks about him jet skiing in six inch water in Toluca Lake. One final note: Normally when Dees does interviews, you can tell that they are recorded from something else, usually for someone else. This is not new: Dees when he first started the "Weekly Top 40" did this as well (I can remember a Kool and The Gang interview from 1985 that obviously was taken from some other interview with Dees voice superimposed). But he did an interview with Bruno Mars earlier this year that was the best interview I've heard in the last two or so years on a top 40 show. I still think Dees has it. Whether he is your cup of tea or not, that's in the ear of the beholder. And that's how Dees has always been. The interviews are fake? Could have fooled me. I thought this was one of the few things that were real. Next thing you'll be telling me the Weekly Top 40 Challenge is fake. The Challenge isn't fake in the sense that there is a prize winner from those who enter. However, don't think Rick is just calling these folks and airing said call. A producer calls, choreographs it, and prompts the winner on what to say. Then it is the magic of editing software

Then it is the magic of editing software Of course, he's been doing this for over 30 years, before modern editing software probably existed. The winner had likely already been chosen from the correct entries, was contacted by Rick and his staff, and led through what to say and do, including sounding like "Whoa, I'm at work and I never expected this! And it's cold today in Milwaukee!" Said winners are presumably happy to have their victories broadcasted, and the whole thing was scripted and edited to make it sound spontaneous.

What was the sped up song that was the challenge in the 1986 show? These are usually pretty easy but I didn't this one.

Thanks. I was thrown off a bit because Rick said it went all the way to #1. "Sweet Freedom" only got to #7.

I don't know if Rick did that on purpose, to try to throw people off. If he didn't, then he and his staff sure couldn't keep their facts straight (common occurrence, just like the Big 40 VJ's today).

Other such errors in the show were saying that Boston had their first hit 11 years earlier, meaning 1975 (it was actually 1976) and shaving 10 years off Frank Sinatra's age (he turned 71 in 1986, not 61.)

I'm surprised no new shows have been listed yet for this weekend. I wonder if we'll get December 2000? I hope so.
