So in other words, whoever did the description for this week spilled the beans about next week. At least it's a chart that's either new or hasn't been featured in a while.

Speaking of 1985, why hasn't Doofus67 posted his own Fantasy Top 20 for the chart date of August 31st?

Speaking of 1985, why hasn't Doofus67 posted his own Fantasy Top 20 for the chart date of August 31st? It's just after 6 AM where he is...may not be up yet. Please give him time. I'm sure he'll post it soon.

Next week's Copycat Casey...1987 Thank goodness. While both this week and next are repeat charts, it's been 5+ years in each case, which is infinitely better than yet another repeat from the last 1-2 years. And we also avoid two weeks in a row copying Premiere's AT40.

If this ends up being the case, I think we're going to have to send an e-mail to the PD asking him to do something about these excessive chart repeats and errors, especially the early and late 80s (but also every 80s year) they continue to make every week. You'd think after 10 years something would click for the management to finally listen but no... I'm guessing there are so many errors because the countdown is scripted by interns who know nothing about music. They send the script to VJs in different cities, who quickly do their voice overs and FTP them where the show is then compiled by an engineer who is juggling 15 other jobs and also has no music knowledge. You'd think the VJs supposedly being 'experts' would be able to impromptu correct some of the mistakes on their own but they just go through the motions and honestly, I don't think their music IQ is that high. They count on being able to pass this sh** off on the casual, novice listener.

Probably September 5, 1987, which they counted down in 2014. At least it's not September 12 of that year, which they did in 2015, 16, AND 17, or August 29 which they did in 2018 (and of course we get from Casey this week.) I'll give a shout out to Los Lobos, though: this is the sixth year in a row that SXM 8 has done a countdown with one of the three weeks "La Bamba" was at #1.

They count on being able to pass this sh** off on the casual, novice listener. You sum it up very well, LVK. I would be more specific and say that the behind-the-scenes people lack knowledge of the music of the 80s in particular. And I'd strongly recommend that a new second step be added to this process. Once the script gets written, however loosely, they need to run it through a fact checker. And it needs to be someone who not only is old enough to have experienced this music personally but also is aware of the existence of more resources than just Wikipedia! Even Martha, who was never shy about going out on a limb and doing her own research, used to quote the All Music Guide. There's also: -- SongFacts.com, which is self-explanatory; -- 45cat.com, for labels, song release dates, and songwriter and producer credits; -- the American Radio History web site, for reprints of all the Hot 100 charts of the 80s and beyond and, in turn, the most accurate week-to-week chart data; -- and, of course, any of Joel Whitburn's books -- not just the chart-related ones but also Music Stars, which contains a brief bio of every artist who ever charted, and a slightly-used copy of which is available cheap online.

Actually they do take countdown songs out of rotation for the weekend and gradually add them back in the next week, unless of course they forget.

I dunno, I remember a fairly recent show they played Tell It To My Heart going into the countdown, then two songs later at #39. Close repeats are even worse on 70s around the airing of the real AT40. I remember last year when there was a few weeks where the rotation was untouched, where it was like the songs from the 8/7/82 countdown were never put back in.

With a new month, let's see if this time I can get what years they will do correct. Since we already know this weekend's is 1987, here's what I think will happen for the rest of it:
9/13/19 - 9/13/80 9/20/19 - 9/17/83 9/27/19 - 9/24/88 or 9/29/84

But I keep my expectations pretty low. I also strongly hope they don't wait an even 10 weeks to play 1987 again, as we've had 11/14/87 three out of the last four years.

Next week it'll be all about 1983, so Michael might be on to something!

Has anyone else noticed how the VJ Countdown is in a batch of odd years followed by a cluster of even years? If the even year batch remains in order, I guess the next five years should be 1980, 1988, 1984, 1986 and 1982. Of course the only predictability of the VJ Countdown is the lack thereof!

So, we're getting a "new" 1983 chart, which is great, but my hopes remain low for 1988 to follow. They seem to be very stingy with "new" 1987-1989 charts.
