Hopefully next week will be 1987. They can't keep repeating the same stuff for too long. I will also throw 1985 in as a possibility for next week or the one after.

Next week, 1981.

In other words, the same chart as last year. At least it hasn't been done three out of the past four years like the past two weeks. I knew I should have kept my mouth shut.

I knew it, Laura, the SXM-80s management really is trying to punish their listeners for nothing. I really expected 1987 either this week or next week, but no, we get 1981 instead, so our fears of August 2019 being entirely chart repeats have been confirmed. The really terrible management really will have the VJs cover the exact same charts from 1987, 1989, etc. over and over again year in and year out, it's going to get worse than ridiculous, and then that would be enough incentive for me to quit listening to the VJ Big 40 Countdown entirely.

And you'd think that after 10, now 11 years that something would click on them to play 1987 next week, or a new chart in general, but they just do the same thing again and again. Maybe we should start a petition calling for the current management to resign, make drastic changes, or perhaps have this feature be cancelled and replaced with Casey/Shadoe AT40 reruns from the 80s, or Rick Dees shows from that decade.
Maybe if they take a fan suggestion's request of playing 1987 they may choose to do it, but we'll see...

How about once next year starts, one of us can try to send the PD or whoever a list of the shows aired this year so hopefully they won't repeat charts as often?

Yeah, I think that would be something that we (or even myself) could work on, perhaps even the last three years or so to match Premiere's AT40 standards.

Somebody on the Facebook note-thread for the 8-19-89 countdown asked, "Do we really have to continue including Milli Vanilli's songs on these countdowns, now that we all know the entire Milli Vanilli act is a big fraud? They don't deserve the recognition, let alone the airplay." I offered a rebuttal to the person, saying that we can't change the record charts of the past, and also told him that personally, I was tired of classic-hits stations always choosing "Baby Don't Forget My Number" every time they want to play a Milli Vanilli song. Your thoughts on this question?

Your thoughts on this question? If the VJ Big 40 Countdown decided to avoid Milli Vanilli songs, that would virtually eliminate the entire year 1989 from the show cycle, since the "group" is represented in nearly every countdown from that year (except for the first few weeks). Furthermore, in spite of the colossal scandal that destroyed Rob & Fab's career, most people who enjoyed the songs at the time probably still enjoy the songs now, which completely justifies including the songs in the countdown as well as in regular rotation on 80's on 8.

Some of those Facebook comments are really silly, posted by some really uneducated chart followers. This is the board to come to for the real music fan. If it charted then, play it now! On Facebook, there is someone who continues to ask, every single week that a Dan Fogelberg song plays, for the banning of "Same Old Lang Syne" because it promotes splitting a six-pack of beer in a parked car. This is what we're dealing with over on that Facebook page.

Yeah, and it's not like Rob and Fab did anything truly horrible, like say R. Kelly (I think 90s on 9 still avoids playing him, even on countdowns).

Your thoughts on this question? I agree with the part about playing only one song by an artist that had multiple hits. 80s on 8 is as guilty of that as any terrestrial radio station. Drives me nuts. I wish there was some way to openly communicate our issues to whoever programs the station. I don't agree with avoiding Milli Vanilli altogether. Despite their public downfall, lots of people still like those songs. Regarding the weekly chart repeats, even though it's 4+ months away, are we taking bets yet on whether 1/7/89 is on tap for 2020? I'd bet huge money on yes at this point.

Unless miraculously they end up playing 1989 really late in December, I'd say there is a good chance.

This also marks the third time this year they count down "Bette Davis Eyes".

Oddly Mark didn't announce next week's show like he started to do when he intros the #1 song.
