I doubt that that's the case. I still hope it's because of how they scheduled the years.
Speaking of controversial artists, oddly on Pop2K's 2004 countdown, they didn't skip over the two songs that featured R. Kelly like they did in the past.

Tonight's countdown will be from 3/28/87. It is being advertised as Madonna, Cameo and more! Cameo dropped like a rock the week after.

It's also a "new" chart for this show, which is somewhat rare for 1987.

Next week it'll be all about 1983. It may not be 1980, but at least they're featuring a chart with not one, but two Michael Jackson songs, but still, why did they go with that one even though 1980 and 1985 were featured before it at first?

It doesn't make sense to me either. I was so proud of the show that they did all 10 different years in the first 10 weeks of the year, and mistakenly thought that they would just keep the same order, but NOT HAPPENING! One thing for sure is that by the time we get to 1980, there may be few if any songs that we heard in early January. I have a feeling that the VJs who introduces "Beat It" and Billie Jean" will just announce the song and its position on the chart.

A few weeks ago when "Leaving Neverland" premiered I heard Alan Hunter in a regular (not countdown) spot musing about the various negative MJ headlines and saying, "You know, I just want to enjoy the music", which led into "Dirty Diana" (one of his less replayed songs that was a nice surprise to hear). In any case, they've continued to play his songs and announce them as such since, so they know they likely can't and won't pull off a "Michael who?" act.

I guess they really are avoiding the charts with "Another Brick on the Wall" at the #1 spot because of the Roger Waters ADL/Maduro thing. Not only will next week's 1983 countdown will be a repeat from two years ago, all of the VJs' talk breaks will be at the exact same spaces as when the last time it was covered! I remember Alan intro-ing "You Are" and "Billie Jean", and almost half of the countdown being a peak position.

Actually they did 3/26 that year. Unless they change it because I saw several people on the FB page asking them to change it to 1980, they'll more than likely use 4/2, where the last 12 or 13 or so positions were the same.

Also 1981 was featured on the VJ Countdown prior to 1983. I believe over 1/2 of the songs will be repeated, by just arbitrarily looking at the charts of 2-12-83 and 4-2-83.

This week they played the live version of "That Ain't Love" by REO Speedwagon. I have no idea why.

I've never believed that these guys choose and/or avoid shows based on one particular song. I seriously doubt that much thought goes into it at all.

I've never believed that these guys choose and/or avoid shows based on one particular song. I seriously doubt that much thought goes into it at all. No doubt about it, Michael, especially considering how lazy this show is week-in and week-out. They simply flipped the 1-5-19 show to 1980 and the 2-1-19 show to 1989 and left the rest of the year alone. Next week will be 10 weeks out from 2-1-19, so we're right on track if we hear a 1980 survey in a week or two. If you can't stand 1980, you're in luck this year, as there will probably only be a Mid-April, Late-June, Early-September and Mid-November countdown from here on out. Once you get through this upcoming April 1980 countdown, only three more of them to come this year.

Tonight's show is being labeled as Phil Collins, Debarge and more!
They couldn't even spell DeBarge correctly!

Next week it'll be all about 1981. So sadly still no 1980 for anyone who is hoping for it. Why are they avoiding that and 1985 so much, because that one hasn't been played since January either.
The only good thing is that we've been getting quite a few newer charts lately, save for a repeat here and there over the past couple of months, because this week's and last week's were "new". Has 4/11/81 been done yet?
