Agreed. Seven of the top ten would be the same either way. But it sure would make more sense, what with tomorrow being the 1st and Tuesday being the 4th. Alan confirmed a couple hours ago that they're using 11/26. Yup, cuz 12/3 would have made too much sense...

Next week it'll be all about 1986.

When was the last time the VJs chose to cover a chart that was not the closest to the first airing of the countdown? Maybe they'll cover the December 3 chart next year.

If you thought the chart choice for the '80s countdown was absurd, Pop2K did 11/25/00 instead of 12/2, which would have made WAY more sense.

This actually sets up the final six weekends nicely if the interns have paid attention. 82,87,81 and 80 down and the other six years to go. Sets up January to feature 80, 81 and 82 with fewer repeats and 87 will work if 86 goes soon. You know what I'm hoping for? The VJ Big 40 covering a chart from December 1984/January 1985 and December 1987/January 1988. Both of those time periods were skipped over in 2017-18. I am not sure how both are going to happen. 10/31/87 might be the closest thing you get. If they go with a 1988 countdown in the next three weeks, there is no way they go back to it in January. 1988, 1984 and 1989 are the three leading candidates to wrap up the year after 1986 debuts tonight.

More than likely they'll go with 12/17 since it's slightly closer, but after last week, it can be either.

If they go with 12/10 it would be a repeat of 2015 and 2016, let's hope this isn't the case...

Let's hope even more that in a few weeks they don't do 1/7/89, which not only have they done several times before but has most of the same songs as a December 1988 show--which didn't stop them in 2014/15, 2015/16, AND 2016/17.

Anyone have any suggestions on how they handle things the next few weeks? I think I would want 1984 and 1989 for December and then 1980, 1982, 1981 and then 1987 in January as by then there will be seven weeks difference between the 1986 chart we are hearing now.

Have to say this. On the way home tonight from Epcot we had the B40 Countdown on and they get to “Amanda.” And I believe it was Alan Hunter lamenting the “unheard of” feat of a song getting over with no video which this one did. I felt like saying “cry me a river.” It’s radio. Not TV. There should have been far more like that one.

With the show's title being "Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, and more," looks like they are going with 12/17.

My preference would be to see 1984 and 1987 wrap up the year, then hold off on 1989 until at least the second week of January.

Next week it'll be all about 1984. When was the last time they actually featured it this late in the year?
Now if 1989 is the week after, then I would have correctly guessed the last six shows. I hope it is because they can avoid another playing of 1/7 that way.

I hope it is because they can avoid another playing of 1/7 that way. The best way to avoid repeated songs is to feature 1989. The survey with the best songs not played in a while is 1987. Excited to hear 1984 next week!
