The 10/19/85 show was played this week and there was talk about it having 1 debut song. Casey mentioned that that had only happed twice before. Actually it happened 3 times before. A show that is forgotten about is 5/20/78. Tumbling Dice by Linda Ronstadt was the only debut that week at #37. Two other shows I know of with one debut are 10/7/89 with The Way That You Love Me by Paula Abdul at #39 and 1/12/91 with Love Makes Things Happen by Pebbles and Babyface at #40. That show is also the one where Matthew and Guner Nelson guest hosted. Does anyone know of any other shows with one debut?

On 08/28/76, the only debut song on AT40 was "Teddy Bear" - Red Sovine. It came in at #40. Also on 10/19/85, "Broken Wings" - Mr. Mister debuted at #35. That was the only debut that week.

Sorry, I should have re-read your posting. I see you started off by mentioning the 10/19/85 show.

Another example is "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. That song made the only debut on the chart in January, 1988 (and fell out the following week).
In the summer of 1992, "Good Stuff" by the B-52's made the only debut and Shadoe Stevens mentioned the number of times that it had happened before. I forget what the exact number was, though - something like nine.

For those interested in Casey's Top 40, there was one week where there were NO debuts=the show for Sept 24, 1994. As far as I know that was the only week in Casey's Top 40's run (Jan 1989 to March 1998) that this happened, but there were several weeks, especially after the R&R chart was divided into Pop and Rhythmic sections (CT40 used the Pop section), that there was only one debut.
I think there were some additional weeks with NO debuts in the early 2000s on AT40 as well.

The January 29, 2005 show had no debuts at all. Of course, by this point the Mediabase list without a recurrent rule was being used, leading to a lot of long chart runs with relatively little turnover. As such, AT40s with only one debut have been somewhat commonplace since 2004.

During this century, there were at least 3 more shows with no debuts:
1/21/2001 5/12/2001 10/26/2013

For those interested in Casey's Top 40, there was one week where there were NO debuts=the show for Sept 24, 1994. I remember tuning into that show so I could hear how Casey introed the show, since he almost always said how many debuts there were. He did not mention that there were no debuts, but he did say something like, "Well, we have lots of chart action this week - big moves by artists like..." and then he proceeded to read off the artists that took the biggest chart jumps that week (there were three songs that moved up at least eight spots that week, so it was probably those artists). He also did that the one week in August, 1995 when "Not Enough" by Van Halen re-entered the chart, with no other songs debuting with it. Zero debut weeks became the norm on AT20 so much that Casey dropped the intro talking about the week's chart, and instead, right after his intro of who he was and what the show is all about, he cut right to the recap of the previous week's three biggest songs.

Don't forget some AT40 Shadoe Stevens era shows where there were no new entries but 1 re-entry: 12/21/1991 (fourth week of the AT40 Billboard Radio Monitor source format) - "Forever My Lady" by Jodeci (#37) 1/16/1993 (second week of the AT40 Billboard Top 40 Mainstream source format) - "Rump Shaker" by Wreckx-N-Effect (#40) 1/28/1995 (final Shadoe Stevens AT40 show) - "Shame" by Zhane (#40)
