The show leads off with Elton John's "Rocket Man", of note since they're playing it the same weekend that the Elt biopic titled after the song opens. Though that may be a coincindence, since the last 1972 show they aired was eight weeks ago and so it was nearly due anyway.

And on July 4, SXM 7 will count down the top 13 hits from every July 4 in the 1970s, though this presumably won't be Casey replays but their own DJ's doing so.

The problem with Sirius/XM airing the first countdown is that all the "AT40 Specials" will be deleted since they were from the sixties:"Uptight (Little Old Man)"-Bill Cosby,"Spinning Wheel"-Blood,Sweat,& Tears,"Hello Dolly" by Louis Armstrong & "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones.

Here's a fun fact related to AT40's debut: The Hot 100 in the July 4, 1970 issue of Billboard mistakenly subtitled Melanie's "Lay Down" as "Rain In the Road". The following week, on the first chart Casey actually counted down, it was corrected to "Candles In the Rain".
Casey prefaced the song with a story about how a Melanie appearance on TV in the Netherlands supposedly led half of all Dutch households to purchase one or more of her records. That claim seemed dubious, and in late 1971 Casey repeated the story (leading into "Brand New Key") by noting that it was difficult to believe but "it's a good story so we'll tell it anyway".

For anyone bemoaning, "The first AT40... again?"
Here is a list of available shows for AT40, the 70's, for the first weekend in July:
July 4, 1970 - The debut show July 3, 1971 - A regular AT40 show July 1, 1972 - The Top 40 Rock Songs show July 7, 1973 - The Top 40 Disappearing Acts Show July 6, 1973 - The Top 40 Acts of the 70's Show July 5, 1975 - The 5th Anniversary Show (a replay of the 1970 debut show) July 3, 1976 - Bicentennial Special Show (#1 songs at July 4 for the past 40 years Kicking off the show at #40: "It Looks Like Rain in Cherry Blossom Lane" by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians. Hard pass!!! July 2, 1977 - The Girls of Rock special countdown show July 1, 1978 - The Top 40 Acts of the 70's Show (updated) July 7. 1979 - The Disco Special countdown show
So, just five options for SiriusXM to choose from. Two years of the debut show, a regular show, the two Top 40 Acts of the 70's shows and the Disco Special are the only ones that don't violate the SiriusXM policy of not playing songs from other decades. I like the Disco show, I don't need to hear the Debut show yet again, so I think the two Acts of the 70's shows would be interesting, even fun!

I would rather they run the Top 40 Acts of the 1970's (2nd version)--but SiriusXM is gonna do what they do since they don't listen to subscriber requests.

"Uptight (Little Old Man)"-Bill Cosby This would probably be deleted anyway, but for different reasons...

SXM ran the 1979 disco show last year. Of the other July specials, they'd probably only play the 1974 and 78 Top 40 Acts of the 70s countdowns since the others include lots of songs from earlier decades. Premiere, also, tends to limit its special countdowns to those that are mostly or entirely made up of 1970s and/or 80s songs (except for the Christmas shows).
One interesting twist would be if they played the 1975 version of the debut countdown, with "1975 Casey and 1970 Casey" crosstalking with each other. I don't think I've ever heard that version of it from either service.
