It also sounds like this aired with no edits. They let the end of the hour theme song bumpers play out completely and extras were left in including the Everly Brothers extra. Oddly I didn’t hear any SXM bumpers at all.

So, after two weeks of no edits for Casey And AT40, SXM went back to its usual hatchet job--Thanks!! Because that's what we're paying for.

So far in 2019, XM has played nine different years thus far. If the pattern continues, next week should be 1978.

With no time constraints, there is no reason SXM can't supersize these butchered 78 shows the way WTOJ has. Yeah, I agree. However, it seems like they do a good job of cutting some thing out of the program but it's been awhile since I recall them adding longer versions to the program. I do remember they subbed a long version of Blinded By The Light (Manfred Mann's Earth Band) to a show but that was quite some time ago. Obviously it's easier to edit something out than to edit something in.

Honestly I don't think SXM cares at all about the Casey shows. They would probably rather just air their own countdown. Before the merge they had the Totally 70's Survey which counted down the top 30 from that week. Of course over on the 80's channel they had and still have the Big 80's Countdown. Just after the merge the Big 80's countdown went away, replaced by the horrible Rick Dees countdown. The 70's channel got Casey. But I don't think they would mind at all if Casey was dropped. They don't so much edit it as the butcher it. It is nice though when a show sneaks thru left more or less intact.

I'd be curious to know what SXM really thinks about the Casey AT40 countdowns on 70's on 7. They clearly feel it's worth it to air them, as they've had plenty of opportunities to drop the show since they first started replaying them in 2006. And I agree--they do butcher them. One of their PD's several years ago responded to an inquiry as to why all the editing. The PD said something to the effect that with shorter listener attention spans these days, they want the shows to have less talk and have music take up a higher percentage of the show, and that the edits make it flow more smoothly. I personally think this is horsesh!t, since there's just as much talk in shows like the Big 80's countdowns, the Alt-18, etc. and most 70s on 7 listeners are of the older demographic, which would figure to not have attention span issues. I've said it before, my theory is that the real primary reason behind the butchering is to diminish the authenticity as compared to the original shows, such that people can't record the shows sounding exactly like their original form. Before SXM started editing (late 2009 I think?), they were playing the shows basically unedited...thereby making it very easy to record (or at least listen to) an entire show in full with no edits, commercials, etc. This practice of course, would figure to compromise the value of Premiere's terrestrial broadcasts of the AT40 classic shows.

I don’t see it that way at all. If recording was an issue, Premiere would do it too. And SXM is a paid service, the Premiere shows are not. The competition isn’t really there. If anything, SXM would get the “full” shows since it is a paid service. It is simply a programming decision on the part of SXM for reasons that are likely simple - they like the way the show moves at a faster pace that sounds like their regular 70s on 7 programming with the edits

This week is March 13, 1971 For some strange reason SXM cut out a song in the countdown--#32 No Love At All by B.J. Thomas. I know why they don't play songs by the Turtles (on the 60's) but why no love for B.J.?

Why no Turtles on SXM if I may ask I listen to 60's on 6 quite a bit and I wasn't paying attention they didn't play the Turtles. I wonder if that has something to do with the lawsuit filed by Flo and Eddie several years ago. They were trying to get royalty payments in the same way songwriters do or something like that. I believe they lost the case.
