1987 hands down!!! For many reasons:
1. It's Casey's last at40 year-end top 100 show of the 80's.
2. I love most of the songs.
3. It features many of my all time favorite artists...MJ, Madonna, George Michael, Whitney, Phil Collins (with Genesis), Janet, Expose and many more!
4. 1987 was the year I first got into at40 and the Billboard charts.
5. Song number 5 is my favorite song of ALL TIME!!!
If anyone knows how I can get this full show please let me know.

I have two favorite year-end shows.
(1) 1980. This is the year I first started listening to AT40. I was in Alabama and the station aired AT40 Sundays from 12-4. Well, after they aired Part 1 of 1980's Top 100, they aired the whole countdown.
(2) 1981. I lived in Miami at the time and the station (Y-100) aired the complete countdown beginning at 4:00 New Year's Eve. The DJ on duty played each side of the records uninterrupted. That is, the DJ did a commercial break only after Segment 3 and Segment 6 of each hour. That eight hour countdown turned out to be seven hours.

I would say 1987 also. For Shadoe, although I haven't heard it since it's original air date, I'd say 1989. For CT40 I'd lean towards 1990 or possibly 1996. For the re-incarnation of AT40, the only show that excites me at all would be the Top 40 of the 90's, not keen on any either '98 or '99, nor any of the 2000's shows for that matter, if I HAD to pick 1, I'd say 2001?

If we're just going by 1970-1987, then I'd say 1975.
That may be surprising given my dislike of Craptain, I mean, Captain & Tennille and the fact that my favorite song of that year, "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship, was snubbed, but there's SO many fantastic songs on that year-end and it was one of my favorite years in music ever.
Honorable mentions go to 1974, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, and 1987.

Bumping up an older thread...
I'd have to say 1984, since that was the year I started listening to AT40 regularly (sometime that June). But 1983 and 1987 are right up there too. 1978 and 1979 would be my favorites from the 1970s. But I like lots of tunes from every AT40 year-end show, though the percentage decreases in years prior to 1975.
Tough call if we include the 1990s - there's really no clear-cut favorite. Currently listening to the 1993 CT40 year-end.

The first year end countdown I recall hearing was 1975. My favorite year end is the one I am listening to now-1977. Since I grew up in the '70's I have a soft spot for most of the hits of the decade but 1971 & 1977 are my favorites.

I started listening to AT40 on 4/7/84 (last week´s "B"-show), so 1984 was the first year-end-countdown for me and it´s still my favorite.

Not surprisingly, doesn’t look like 1974 was anyone’s first choice.

Well, another zombie thread rises from the grave after over six and a half years. Second time is has come back to life, the first time it was 'dead' was from early 2006 (before I knew of either the Premiere shows or of this board) through the end of 2014. Have to check to see if I posted my opinion during its previous 2014-2017 run. Excuse me while I check...
OK, I didn't. So my choice is 1970, for several reasons:
1) It was the first year-end AT40 show (duh!) 2) I recall being enthralled to hear all of the hits from the first half of that great year in music, and seeing how they ranked overall. 3) Loved the printed copy of the Top 80 of the year that was offered to listeners. You bet I grabbed that offer And the photo of Casey 'in action' in the studio at the bottom of the list was an added bonus!

Having just listened to quite a few for the first time in awhile, I’d have to say 1987. The show was at its prime in that era. Highly polished and Casey sounded great. Love the jingles from that era. The montage of #1s from other years to start and the montage of all #1s from the year were excellent. I love that Casey would say “or worldwide presentation”. You really felt like you were listening to a special event.
I can remember grabbing a blank caseate and turning on the radio at 4 pm on New Year’s Eve to find a station that would air it from 4-midnight. I grew up in an area where I could hear the show on several stations during the 80s could usuallly find one. By the time the 90s came around, it was harder for me to find a station and most aired the YE during its normal time.
