Here's my critique of the countdown from 1/18/75,which is airing this weekend on terrestrial radio:
#40-"My Eyes Adored You"-Frankie Valli-This is one of the slowest climbing songs in chart history-It debuted on the Billboard "Hot 100" in November 1974-This was its first week on "AT 40"-It wouldn't hit #1 until the week of 3/22/75-A bona fide classic.
#39-"Lady"-Styx-The breakthrough release for this Chicago band, which featured Dennis De Young on lead vocals-Admittedly,I'n not a huge Styx fan,but I love this song.
#38-"Your Bulldog Drinks Champagne"-Jim Stafford-One of his lesser known novelty songs, but it's definitely worth a listen.
#37-"Lonely People"-America-One of their best songs.
#36-"Nightingale"-Carole King-The second release from her album "Wrap Around Joy"-Great tune.
#35-"Cat's In The Cradle"-Harry Chapin-His biggest chart hit overall & a timeless classic.
#34-"The Entertainer"-Billy Joel-Great tune which deserved a better fate.
#33-"Dark Horse"-George Harrison-One of my favorite solo hits from this former Beatle-It later became the name of a record label which Harrison founded.
#32-"Ready"-Cat Stevens-One of his lesser known hits, but definitely worth a listen.
#31-"I Belong To You"-Love Unlimited-The second of two top forty hits for this female R&B trio from San Pedro,CA-Great tune.
#30-"Sweet Surrender"-John Denver-One of his best songs.
#29-#9 Dream"-John Lennon-The second release from his album "Walls & Bridges"-Great tune-FYI:The female voice saying "John" belonged to May Pang, who was his ladyfriend at the time.
#28-"From His Woman To You"-Barbara Mason-The final top 40 hit for this Philadelphia native-Great tune.
#27-"Look In My Eyes,Pretty Woman"-Tony Orlando & Dawn-Great tune which never receives recurrent airplay.
#26-"Struttin"-Billy Preston-Great instrumental.
