So we really are getting 1988? Are my eyes deceiving me?
Whoa! If that's for sure, I'll guess some extras -- and yes, two of them fell out of the top 40 this week:
* "Faith" -- George Michael. (Was at No. 47 this week.) * "So Emotional" -- Whitney Houston. (Was at No. 44 this week.)
And -- continuing on the theme from last year -- latter-1988 No. 1 hits:
* "Red, Red Wine" -- UB40. * "Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird (Medley)" -- Will to Power.
Backups:
* "Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car" -- Billy Ocean. * "Angel" -- Aerosmith. * "Some Kind of Lover" -- Jody Watley. * "Electric Blue" -- Icehouse.

Predictions for this weekend's optional extras:
"Wishing Well" by Terrence Trent D'Arby "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" by Billy Ocean "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" by Michael Bolton "Angel" by Aerosmith
This weekend's retro broadcast features "Rocket 2 U" by The Jets debuting at #40. Casey Kasem mentioned on the TV show "America's Top 10" that is was, at that time, rising up the Hot 100 singles chart. OZ-FM originally aired the February 6, 1988 broadcast on Valentine's Day weekend, and it was proven at that time that AT40 was one week behind schedule normally until they aired the right episodes on their actual airdate starting on February 2, 1991 - they didn't air the "Star Trek" themed episode for some weird reason, and it's too bad, because there were 7 debuts that week. I was rather surprised after seeing the "America's Top 10" show on Valentine's weekend 1988 that "Rocket 2 U" was already on AT40 that same weekend.
And I originally assumed, based on the writing style, that song was written by Prince, but I was proven wrong when I discovered it was written by Bobby Nunn. I wonder if Bobby Nunn is affiliated with Prince or something?
Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" debuted that same week as well. I do remember hearing that same song as an optional extra with last year's airing of February 6, 1988, and Larry Morgan acknowledged that the Bad album would generate 5 #1 songs from an album, and he mentioned it was "a feat only surpassed by Katy Perry 23 years later" (at the time Premiere aired 2/6/1988).

I'd say so. Pia Zadora's about as talented a singer as she is an actress. ;D She's no Shirley Ellis! (Shirley-Shirley-bo-Birley "Name Game" Ellis did the original "Clapping Song" as a follow-up to her big hit in 65. "The line broke, the monkey got choked, and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat. Clap, clap...") I actually like Pia's version, though in kind of a cheesy way. She sounds like a high school cheerleader leading the crowd at a pep rally. Maybe they were trying to cash in on Toni Basil's "Mickey"? Regardless of one's opinion of "The Clapping Song", I don't think Premiere is going to purposefully avoid shows from February 1983 so as not to play it; in 2008 they played a countdown that included it. And maybe people complained after hearing it. Actually, I was being facetious when I made that post; many dumb songs are heard on the AT40 show - and if radio programmers hate them so much that they're afraid they'll lose listeners, they could always fake a technical difficulty. Moreover, after seeing this new information on the boards, it looks like 1980 might be held off on until March, since both the February 16 and 23 shows were run over the past two years. So, assuming they won't be repeating any years before all nine possible years have a turn, they just might do 1983 sometime in February. That year and possibly 1986. Since they basicially did two 1987 shows in a row around year-end time (yes, I know the show date is 1988, but it focused on 1987 music), they might hold off on that year until last. However, if they do that, they might have to repeat a year that's already had a turn in 2013, since, by the time they get to that 1987, it would be the weekend of March 9, which would mean the March 7 show which, of course, is out of the question, since it was subhosted by Charlie Van Dyke. I'm fairly sure we won't hear a 1987 show the first week in March either, since the closest show is February 27 and, of course, they want to stick to the same month. So they might do a 1987 show in February. Or they could do the same as last year and repeat a year that's already been run this year and then do 1987 the next week (if they do that, then essentially, all years will have had a turn, since the 1987 year-ender, though technically a 1988 show, would count for 1987). But in any case, we likely won't be hearing 1980 until at least the week of March 2. It'll be easier to predict once we know the schedule for the rest of February (which, of course, we won't until circa February 18).

Early predictions for the week after next: 2/19/83.
That one contains a tribute to Karen Carpenter and, since this is the 30th anniversary of her death (and they played that one around the 25th anniversary), Premiere just might go with that one.
If they do, that would narrow my guesses for the weekend of 2/23-24 down to two.

Confirmed, KOLA says 2/13/88. It was already confirmed by Pete and JDelach. How much more confirmation did you need?

Aah. I forgot about Tiffany being a country singer previously. That clue was really a stumper.
