The following link gives you access to digital reproductions of the 20th, 25th, 30th, and the 35th anniversary supplements that classic Radio and Records put out in 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008 respectively, plus the first R&R special supplement called “Top 40 Story” that came out way back in the summer of 1977 when the format was still relatively young. www.americanradiohistory.com/Radio-and-Records-Anniversary-and-Special-Issues.htm(I used to own a couple of these anniversary issues that came out with their own audio CDs chronicling the evolution of the radio industry since 1973.) Of special note is the year-by-year rankings of the R&R year-end charts covering most of the important formats (Top 25s for the 25th anniversary issue, and Top 10s of the ‘70s& Top 10s/Top 20s for the 30th anniversary issue); plus a complete recap for all the year-end #1s for the 35th anniversary issue. BTW, more of the regular issues of R&R will be available on PDF soon. For now you can browse thru a couple: Jan, 2, 1987 & March 1, 2002 issues thru www.americanradiohistory.com/RandR-Magazine-Page-Range-Guide.htm and click on 1/2 & 3/1 links to see the digitalized copies. As you flip through the pages you might recognize some of the famous countdown hosts like John Leader, Walt ‘Baby’ Love, Joel Denver (of Future Hits) and Lon Helton who were at one time or another part of its editorial department. But for the greatest hits, see p. 146 of the R&R’s 25th anniversary issue for a real surprise as Casey reflects on his career inspiration, his role model and much more. The 30th Anniversary issue also has an exclusive and longer perspective on Casey titled ‘Reaching For The Stars’ on p. 97.

I hope the day comes Whitburn puts out a R&R chart reproduction book or DVD-ROM and a Top 40 book on them. I'd love to get them.

I would love if Record Research would cover both Radio & Records along with Cashbox to get a complete view of the charts back then.

I would love if Record Research would cover both Radio & Records along with Cashbox to get a complete view of the charts back then. There are full lines of Cashbox chartbooks that were published when the trade was alive and well. They include week-by-week charts positions for all titles, too (something Whitburn has done only for selected positions in his ‘Pop Annual’ book.) The books have long been out-of-print, but they do show up on e-bay every now and then. In order of publication they were: Cashbox Pop Album Charts 1955-1974 Cashbox Country Singles Charts 1958-1982 Cashbox Black Contemporary Singles Charts 1960-1984 Cashbox Pop Album Charts 1975-1985 Cashbox Black Contemporary Album Charts 1975-1987 Cashbox Country Album Charts 1964-1988 Cashbox Charts For the Post-Modern Age 1978-1988 (This one has CashBox other charts’ stats like Disco, Midline/Catalog albums, video, etc.) Cashbox Pop Singles Charts 1950-1993 (updated version of the 1981/82 book). By no means a complete picture: the books except the one apparently never got updated.

For historical purposes two dozen R&R rating directory supplements from 1980 thru 2009 are also here now: www.americanradiohistory.com/R&R_directories.htmAnd another real gem: Written by Casey himself in Gavin Report’s commemorative issue from 1998 (p. 51/52). Thanks for posting the links to the old R&R issues! I'm looking forward to more. For those of you who are interested in the digital archives of the regular issues of R&R, the collection is now grown to include 127 ranging in date from November 16, 1973 to November 28, 2008. Use the link for the following website and click on the date links to read them via PDF: www.americanradiohistory.com/RandR-Magazine-Page-Range-Guide.htmUnfortunately there’re large gaps yet to be filled for 76-87 and 89-99 years, but this digital collection has been growing at a fairly good pace in the last few months.
